Ok i have one but have not ran it yet as it will be here today[8D] I have done the searches and there is very little info out there about them. So maybe this thread will be the place to find the info needed for others in the future. If you have one please post your thoughts about this engine. Like Prop size, Nitro%, Plug, Airframe.
Here is what i plan on starting out with.
Zinger 20X6
15% Nitro
Bisson muffler
#8 plug
Vp30 Pump
Gp wagstaff arf
Properly tuned how's the fuel draw compare to a OS 1.60FX?

Perry pumps are not that great on the BGX. These engines are a bit slow to spool and the pump provides a lot of fuel as soon as the throttle is opened making it sputter a lot. Fuel draw is directly related to rpm, a BGX needs about 8000 with muffler pressure to be really good. Your 20-6 prop should tach more than that. I found that 15% nitro will broaden the mixture range enough to cover the effects of big props or big tanks. Dont lean these engines much beyond a four cycle setting because they tend to get hot and lose power in flight. The stock muffler will eventually shake itself apart. The BGX is somewhat unique, most peoples expectations of it are too high.

This is why we need a thread on the BGX-1. It has a bad rap and i believe it's from not understanding the engines needs. Much like the OS1.60FX when it first came out. Maybe if enough people post there setup's, What works/don't work we can get it figured out for everyone.

I think the only bad rap is from those who cannot tune this engine any better than any other they may own. if they do have one that runs great, it was by accident. Thing is as reliable as any 1.08 or any other engine I ever had in cluding the (ST2300)

I ran one of these for ages.
Ran on 15% Coolpower, 5% Nitro, Props from 18x10 to 20x8. Used stock muffler and J-Tec. Mostly used OS #8 plug.
My only complaint was the mid-range. Always way too rich until I fitted a Cline regulator, beautiful after that.
Power is about the same as a Moki 1.8, but a more constant speed engine, not as peaky as the Moki. More like a pattern engine, held on better going up, did not wind up as much coming down.
I really don't think this engine deserves a bad name.
I have a brand new in box genuine OS tuned pipe for the BGX-1 if anyone is interested. E-mail me [email protected]
Cheers

I just flew my new gp 25%yak with a bgx. great engine, no problems whatsoever. it does like to run on the rich side in mid range though. but i run all my engines slightly rich. makes them run cooler and last longer.
