I have been running this engine in my H9 P-51 PTS and I threw away the 3 bladed prop and put on a Master 11x6. To get a little more performance can I take out the Baffle that is in the muffler or would it be better to make the holes in the baffle bigger??
Thanks ............... Dennis

I got much better response from my Evolution TPS (came in my Arrow trainer RTF) by switching to an OS A3 plug. That brought that engine to LIFE! If you are still using the H9 plug, and are looking for better response, I recommend you trying an A3.

The A3 plug is a must for the Evo's from .40 to 1.00. I don't know about the .36 yet. I'll buy that soon for a kit I want to build.
I removed the baffle on my .46NT the moment I pulled the engine out of the box. Just take it out and tune the engine once it has about 5 minutes on it. Then, go fly and have a lot of power.

Hitech1: I never used the three bladed prop at all. During the test stand break-in, the muffler kept coming apart which seemed to be caused by the baffle not fitting correctly. Removed the baffle, installed a 4-40 threaded rod to hold the muffler together, and had no further problems. Last week my normal Fox RC glow plug would not get the fuel to ignite due to the cold weather. Using a Fox miracle hot plug, the engine started right away. Did not have an engine flame out either. I will be returning to the cooler plug as the weather warms up as even with added castor oil to Sig 10% all castor fuel, I have never had a problem using the Fox RC idle bar plugs until the cold weather. I did have an overheating problem with my TT .42 after installing the Fox miracle hot plug. Two flame outs almost did my plane in when going to half throttle after takeoff. I am a little gun shy when installing a hot glow plug again. Be prepared in case you have a flame out.

If is the engine that can with the H9 P-51 PTS, it's probably not an "NT" but the trainer engine (it came with a flywheel, right?) and it has a more conservative port timing.
It still a very good engine, it will just turn a bigger prop and or more pitch at lower RPM whereas the "NT" makes a bit more power at a higher RPM with less prop load.

Well Lowwinds: I had the same thought about the Evolution Alpha engine that was in the Royal-Aire 40T trainer I purchased from an elderly genteman. Mounted the engine on the test stand to see just how soon it would blow up. After removing the flyweight, and needle valve restrictors, only the muffler assembly became a problem. Did the whole Dar Zeelon engine break-in, and had to wipe the egg off of my face as the engine really performed as well as any engine I own. Mounting it into a repaired beat up trainer just in case I crashed, it would be no great loss to me. So far it has been a swell engine , and only needed a hotter glow plug for the cold weather. I am using Cool Power All synthetic 10% nitro with 6 ounces of castor oil added. Really have a nice blue smoke stream. My usual fuel is Sig 10% all castor fuel with one ounce of racing castor oil added. Since I mistakenly purchase the Cool Power, I decided to use it in the Evo engine just to use it up in an engine I really did not care about. Now I have been humbled by just how well this engine has performed.
Would really like to hear about what problems you had with your Evo, and which one did you have?
