Default light weight .75 engine

Looking for a light weight .75 glow. Don't want OS. Any ideas? Light weight and power.

Tower .75
Best engine in the hobby for under $100. 2yr warranty--unless your a Tower Club member, then it's a 4yr warranty. But it's out of stock and it's anybody's guess when it will actually be available again. They've been out of parts for over 6 months.

The ST .75 is another option, but I'm not sure it meets your weight requirements. The muffler is heavy. If you look at the raw weight of the engine, it's just 1.5oz more than the TH .75. You can get a lighter muffler for it.

There's the OS .75. It's TWICE the cost of the other 2 engines. It's no lighter. Not the one I'd choose.

here is the lightest, the Jett 76L (15.2 oz including muffler). Of course you will pay a hefty price for it: http://www.jettengineering.com/engines/bse40.html

Any idea what a good replacement carb would be for the TH75? Looking for other options besides replacing it with another TH.

Thanks, and FlySafe! Larry (Larrys4227)

Larry - just curious, why would you go with another carburetor? The supplied carb idles and transitions the engine extremely well.

I'll tell ya why Larry is asking for a different carb:

[:@][:@][:@]

Most likely because Tower has been out of stock for at least 6 months that I know of. Maybe longer. I started looking for a new carb back in September 2007 and they've been out of stock the entire time.

The SK90 carb will work. I haven't tried it, but I know Ed Moorman did. According to him, the carb drops right in and works great. You just have to take about 1/16" of length off the base of the carb or it sticks out too far and won't seal up. Stick it on a disk or belt sander and grind off 1/16" The SK90 carbs are only $29.

I'll be ordering one here in a week or two when I scrape up the money. The throttle arm broke off one of my Tower .75 carbs last summer. I can't figure out a way to get it back on the barrel and not vibrate off. Weld it? [sm=71_71.gif] I haven't got a welder.

Why not try the JBA .75 ABC 2-stroke? It's only $99.95 and their performance is terrific by all accounts.

You could order one from http://www.kangkeusa.com or at http://www.bj-model-engines.com

Jigeye,

With the exception of the Jett .76L. the only other choice you have is the [link=http://www.webra-austria.at/motor.php?search=1035C&folder=AERO&lang=DE]Webra Speed .70[/link].

It weighs in at 470 grams (just over 16.5 oz.) net; 75 grams lighter than the Tower and all Webra Speed .60 exhausts will fit it.

The Jett is definitely the king, but it requires a 'king's ransom' to purchase...
I am not sure how much cheaper the Webra will be, with the current Euro exchange rate.

I would prefer JBA 91 instead of JBA 75 because its the same block, same weight.

Super Tigre 90. It's a 90 engine in a .60 case. It's reliable, user-friendly, and has moderate-to-good power. I love'em!

Not to open a hornets nest .... but I've been having trouble getting the motor to shutdown. The carb is definately seated, so its not sucking air from the base. I've tried a low PSI pressure test and theres alittle air leaking from the front bearing (should be ok), but alot of air leaking from the carb barrel. Fuel delivery is fine. My last testing to do is fiddle with the low-speed needle. Reports on here say that its alittle finicky and once I find the sweet spot, it will shutdown.

Other than this little 'issue', the motor is great. No deadsticks, and idles and transitions well. Just thought I'd ask the question about replacements as I'm getting to the end of possible solutions. Seems I read somewhere that an OS 60-61 carb would fit .... but geez I can almost buy a brand new TH for the price.

Thanks for all the responses! FlySafe! Larry (Larrys4227)

The SK90 carburetor from http://www.kangkeusa.com/ will work with your TH 75. The SK70 and SK80 probably have the same carburetor too, but I know that the SK90 will work. I have used one on my TH75 since last season when I broke the HS needle off the carb on my TH75. Tower has had the carburetor and parts on backorder for decades. I had an SK90 available and the carburetor bolted up and worked flawlessly. The price is right too!
