Oh yeah? Just where would you buy one from?

I'd put the Tower .46 muffler on it.

I forgot, they've been out of stock for almost a year. [:@]
Uhhhhhhhhh, scratch Tower .46 muffler unless you can wait until 2015 for it.

Try the Weston 36 with the Genesis pipe.

Pricey but the absolute DBs in that engine size.

The tuned mufflers are still available at Mecoa as GMS 47 tuned mufflers. And they are cheaper than tower.

you might consider an avistar 46, it has a ball bearing crank, and only weights about 1 oz more than your os 46. They sell for $50.00 t0 $60.00. depending where you buy,

I had never heard of an Aviastar until this thread. No one locally flies one. Price on sigmfg.com is very impressive ($49.99). But the way I read it, it weighs 13.4 ounces Not counting the muffler. So too heavy for my application. I think any ball bearing .40 or .46 is going to weigh too much. I'm leaning toward the .36 - have always had good luck with my TT pro .46, so if their .36 is just as good, I might go with that one. Weston .36 is also new to me. But probably hard to justify the price. appears to be 110 pounds sterling so would be over 200 us dollars.

Brodak has the Fox 40 bushing for 60$...it is advertised to spin a 10-6 at least 13000rpm at 9.4oz. without muffler. I had one in a 4 star and it ran great all the time. I was the second or third owner of the plane and engine and the guy I sold it to loves it. A ball bearing engine is 4-5oz heavier at least. That 4-5 oz weight difference equates to about a half pound lighter airplane.
It would take a really good 36 to equal a 40 in torque let alone a 46. A diesel conversion would provide much more torque.

OK. I got an OS .32 (12 ounces with muffler) but it was not enough. I tried at least 6 props and the best hovering prop was a 12x3 wood. Also tried 10x4, 9x4, 8x6, etc. My 3.5 pound profile would hover, but without enough reserve to climb out briskly. Temperature was over 80 F. I'm going to go to a .46BB engine. will put the weight close to 4 lbs.

I can't help but throw this one in the ring
but a rear exhaust ball raced Stalker 51 with muffler weighs 10.4 ounces and is designed to swing large props. Not all that easy to find though.

You might want to look at the FOX 40 bushing engine. It has a lot of power in a very light package.

Good choice. Also the Fox 45 BB (ring) and 46BB (ABC) are quite powerful and come in around 12-13 ounces.

THe Webra 50 is 12 oz without muffler. So more with, but it might be worth it either shortening the nose or adding the dreaded tail weight. It would be like doubling the HP with little weight penalty. If the design is good make another plane with the Webra or TT.46 or OS46AX in mind and keep the other like it is.
