Default Engine recommindations?

I was wondering if you guys can give my some info or recommindations as to what type of engine to get. I'm looking for a 2-stroke .46 engine that isn't to expensive but that is reliable and offers a great amount of power. I plan on using the engine for a Great Planes P-51 mustang.

Thx for the help

You can't go wrong with a Thunder Tiger Pro .46. Best value for the money in that class.

The price here on the TT is much lower than the MVVS. Maybe its different in India.

I would consider a 4 stroke. I would think the Magnum/Asp .61 would be good. As well as the TT .54 if you plan to fly scale like.

Hmmmmm, offers a great amount of power and is reliable but not expensive? Kind of hard to do but the GMS .47 or Tower .46 perfectly fit this requirement provided you don't mind throwing a towel at the prop at idle to kill the engine.....

If you get the Magnum make sure you get the XLS instead of the plane XL. But I'd still go TT46 Pro if I were you. Proven realabilty and power.

tt 46 pro defenitly. best bang for the buck. for political reasons I personally spend my hobby dollars on products made by friendly democratic nations. not on nations like china.

If you must go 2 stroke I say Ditto, Ditto and Ditto on the TT46. But every warbird really needs a 4 stroke. Mag 52 or 61 is a good moderately priced engine.

Stay away from the OS 40 LA. Hard to start, hard to keep running, won't idle, lots of dead sticks. Other than that- great engine! .I've had everyone in the club try to tune it. No go.

My 40LA has never died in flight 'cept when I ran it out of fuel and starts with a stick. I like the little beast but, I don't think it has the power you'll need. I'd stay away from it for this bird. Would be great for a Magic or SPAD though.

Default buy American products?

How about the K&B 48. I've heard great things about that engine and MECOA will give you a trade-in deal.

Or an Irvine 53. A little expensive, but worth it.

Better to have an American or British engine in the Mustang. Almost sacrelious to put a Russian or Chinese engine in the P-51

Sheldon's is selling the Fox 40 for a good price.

It's also better to have a four stroke in a Mustang. You wouldn't want a P-51 to sound like the other high wing trainers at the field. If a YS 63 four stroke is out of reach, then get a Magnum four stroke.

There is no point to prolonging this discussion. The requirement is "2-stroke .46 engine that isn't too expensive but that is reliable and offers a great amount of power". Nine out of ten doctors use a TT Pro .46 in their own Mustang. GMS .47 and Tower .46 will also do nicely.

Default Engine recommindations?

Thx all for the help. The reason i'm not going to get a 4-stroke is because I don't have that much money to pay for them and I don't have any experience operating and maintaining a 4-stroke. So I think i'll probably go with a TT.46 but i'm talking to the guys at my airfield, or I might get a magnum because I know of a guy that can replace them for me if I really screw up that engine which I probably won't do. Well thx all for the advice.

Default RE: Engine recommindations?

personally , I like to see a war bird in the air but with a 2 strokes. screaming engine.......... the charm breaks immediately

the beauty of this plane is created with a good match and to put an engine 2 cycles is like putting fluorescent dice in hair on the mirror of Ferrari

the creation of a masterpiece takes time and sacrifices it is what makes its value of it

recommand: OS 70 4 strokes or Saito 82

Hello; Whatever it takes to get you in the air, I suppose. You can join the snooty four stroke club later if you like. I use four strokes too, but I still have a pair of ST 46's for a twin project. They work for me, probably 6 years old now.Thunder Tiger 46 Pro, that is what they are. If it is all that is stopping you flying, any engine you buy nowadays will do the job

note to the 4 stroke guys
Lets hook him on flying first, then the four strokes.

I was flying a senior Telemaster today with a Saito 91, doing stationary rolls into the breeze. I don't think a two stroke would do that, at least not as well. There were a few walk-ins that were watching, later they all said how they'd enjoyed the day.
