Hi all, I am new to the YS's. Have a 110 inverted in a pattern plane. I ran a few tanks of fuel on a stand and put it in the plane. It now has about 3/4 gallon through it. The high end needle is rich and leaves a good smoke trail. After full throttle uplines, I throttle back to lighten the engine load on the down lines.
Tonight I was flying a lot at part throttle and the engine was really loading up. It would run fine after I ran it up. At one point I thought it was going to die so I gave down elevator and more throttle to clean it out. Runs great at full throttle and close to full throttle. If I turn in the regulator, will that take care of the midrange?
I have played with the idle screw a bit. It doesn't seem very sensitive. Idle is OK, but could be better I think. With the low time on the engine, I hope this will get better with time.
I do have a few Saito's and have learned to keep them a bit on the rich side.
Running 20/20 fuel for YS, still using original YS plug. I can try a new OS F plug next time I'm out.
Does it sound like I'm on the right track?
Thanks

Hi,
Close the regulator CW about 1/8 round and check the engine at 4000 rpm for 30 sec if it's still loading ( going down below 4000 ) then close another 1/8 and recheck till the point it will maintain 4000 steady, make sure to warm the engine before that testing

You're on the right track, for sure. The 4000 RPM test is the way to go but, you have to hit 4000 after a high speed run, takes a few attempts to get it perfect. I would install the F plug right away

OK, When I assembled the plane I did not drill a hole for the regulator screw. I drilled a hole and sealed the hole with CA. I used a lot of CA to make sure it was good and sealed. Well I had CA run into the threads of the regulator screw. Now it ran awfull and I couldn't get it running half way decent.
So I had to pull the engine and remove the screw and housing. I got all that cleaned out and got the engine remounted. Took it out this afternoon. Got the high end dialed in. OK idle, great transition, no loading up. So far so good. I now have a new plug in it and about one gallon. I'll play with it more as I get more fuel through it.
Thanks again, MikeB
