Default Help Need Gaskets 45FSR ABC

Hey Guys I broke the rear plate gasket during the tear down before cleaning my OS45 fsrabc in the old crock pot. She came out looking new, but it seem the gaskets are no longer available from OS. Any one know where to get gasket material so I could make my own.

I still have the front case gasket for a template just need the material.

Thanks in advance

A very small amount of RTV will work, or you can even try ordinary printer paper. I have heard of both working very well. Alternately you can always try a local motorcylcle or lawn mower repair shop and ask for a sheet of the very finest gasket material they stock. This is the route a lot of YS .61 fliers went when it was found the stock gaskets were not punched incorrectly and could block the passages in and out of the regulator body.

Good luck,
John

Thanks Guys I did find out what it's called a Paper Fiber/vegetable gasket material, glycerine glue impregnated and then a tanning agent formaldehyde is used to render the glue insoluble this makes the paper gasket withstand 250 degrees?

This is also the same veg paper if you press multi-layers(50 tons)together you get Laminate counter top material hummmmmm! I did find it in 4'x250' rolls just enough for every R/C engine in the World

DJLYON you paper comment got me thinking I found a few sheets of Bakers Parchment Paper my wifes kitchen she uses this stuff for baking cookies on at 350 degrees (THAT SHOULD DO NICELY) Geeese hope she does not mind if I borrow it hehehe.

I never thought of it but the bakers parchment paper should be just fine.

If the back plate of the engine ever reachs 250 deg though, I suspect the engine will be toast.

Default Consider this...

I have an old .40 FSR that I had the same issue with.

A quick trip to the local Hobby Town with backplate in hand revealed that the gaskets for the .46LA were in fact an exact match. The .46LA set contains a head shim and a single gasket so I had to buy 2 of them to get the pair needed for my FSR.

I've always used the backing paper from my old check books. I take a very small ballpean hammer and lighty tap it untill I punch a hole then I install a screw to hold it in place. I then do the same thing on the far corner for another screw. Then I lighty tap around the inside to cut the gasket out. After I have it cut out, I install the back plate and then trim the rest off the outside with a #11 blade. I have done this for years and have never had any problems with it. I hope this helps.
