Hello,
When looking for an engine for my new f3a pattern plane i came across the Webra 160 engine. Specs are impressive (http://www.webra-austria.at/motor.ph...r=AERO&lang=EN). However this engine is not widely used. Has anyone experience with this motor?
Kind regards, Jan

You might be better off asking on the pattern forum. Even there you will get arguments about 2 stroke VS four, and especially VS the OS electronic fuel injection.

I saw the performance of a Webra 160RR with a webra tuned pipe on a pattern ship just couple of weeks ago. Its simply fantastic.

Ive been using them for 2 years in pattern now. Took second in district 2 NSRCA, flew them in the 2008 nats. Uses less fuel then the ys. Cost less to rebuild.

Together with 2 clubmates we bought 3 engines including the C160 silencer. We were pleasently suprised with engine. We put them on a 2 * 2 mtr pattern plane. We do have all three the same plane. The total flying weight is of the planes is about 5 kilo's (4.7 - 4.8 kg). Two clubmates are running the engine with 16% synthetic oil and 0%nitro. I run my engine with16% oil and 2% nitro. Power is enough to go unlimited vertical. We are using 17*12 and 18*10 props. We were a bit concerned about the soundlevel (engines dont make noise :-) ). However this not an issue. You can actualy see trough the silencer but the sound level is effectively lowered. Someday wil do a measement.
We are running the engines not higher then 9200 RPM. The engine start very easy (most times one flip, execpt of course when the engine is flooded)
When in idle the engines shakes firmly. We had to strenghten the firewall construction and use foam to dampen vibrations (eg cockpit part). Transition from idle to full needs some adjustment (this does not worry us now as the the engine is stil running in)
We have now not more then 5 flights recorced so i can not tell how the long term stability/behavior will be.
Concluding: so far so good...

I have about the same results. I run 20% Cool Power Fuel. 2 head shims on APC 18.1 x 10 prop. RPM 7800 to 8000. Currently flying two Focus II 2 meter aircrafts. Tuned pipe on one is the Aeroslave and the other EDS from central hobbies. Muller 3/4" headers. The plane with the EDS tuned pipe has the Webra 12mm carb. The mid range seams to be better with this carb. I plan on changing the other one to the 12mm carb. I have installed stainless steal rear bearings which last much longer than the Webra orignal or ceramic.

Where do you get these stainless steel bearings? Interesting thing. Although i have no experience with ceramic bearings i was thinking that these are a good alternative for the standard bearings (may because they are expensive...).

Boca Bearings

I went through 4 of the high dollar cermic bering. The stainless are better.
If your running a tuned pipe. What is the distince from you glow plug to the first baffellle or end of the end of the big part of the pipe?

Thanks for the link.
When we bought the moter including the C160 silencer also an additional piece pipe came with it. If you then add the length between the middle of the moter and the first plate in the silencer the total length is about 64 cm (25.2" ). All is then tuned for about 9000 RPM. However our planes do not allow this length so now it is shorter. We did not do exact RPM measurements to this date. Tomorrow at the field i will do a measurement. I will post the results.

I think I had a problem with very short plug life when the pipe got to short, burned out after 4 flights.
