I'm using an LA .40 with 11x4 prop. Balanced perfectly. I haven't flown it yet, it just keeps snowing and blowing!

Default TOO much

Pat,
Way too much power. I am running mine with a old well used Webra .32 on a tuned exhaust system. I don't think the pipe adds much power but I also put a 4 oz tank to add lightness.
This plane is not a pylon racer it does best at zero airspeed!

Default never too much!!

I don't intend to pylon race with it, I just like to have enough power for unlimited vertical; hanging on the prop and getting above the trees. We fly between two tree covered mountains, ( in West by Gawd Virginia!!!) and not being able to climb out due to lack of power and plowing the trees sux! Also, the radios we use have a throttle stick!! Thanks for the input anyway!!

Default Magic

I was flying my Magic with an old K&B .40 having a ball. When I finally decided I wanted a little more power I took a chance and bought a Leo .37. Wow, what a combination, at 3 LB. 10 Oz. this thing takes off in a couple of feet goes to vertical and accelerates
out of sight. using a APC 11-4 Prop.

Well Now! I'm in the same quandry. I think I'll have to change the Motor to a YS 53 as this Magic only ways 3 lbs 10 Oz with a YS 63 on it. The 63 is going to be way to much! hmmmmm No Prob same Motor mount. Swap time.
Bob If your's weighs 3.10 with a Leo then you must be using full size servo's as I have HS225MG's and 1 HS 81MG for Throttle and mine is the same weight.

Default OS 46 FX

I have an OS 46 FX on mine. The prop is an APC 12.5x3.75 (I think). It was the one recommended by the book. Flies excellent. The motor runs awesome, although it's still getting broken in as it only has 10-15 flights on it.

FYI, I installed a tail wheel on mine which helped the taxi stability a LOT!

Have fun.

Scorpion....... Your comments gave me cause to pause. I took 4 of my one Lb. fishing sinkers and weighed them on a certified scale at 4 Lb. 1 Oz. Brought them home and put them on my scale and set the zeroing knob so the scale read 4 Lb. 1 Oz. Then I weighed my Magic complete with APC Prop. a 1 Oz. spinner nut, the exhaust extension, all rubber bands, everything but the fuel. It weighed 3 Lb. 12 Oz. This is with 5, HS 225BB servos and a 4 cell AAA NiMH battery pack. I stopped at my flying buddys house this afternoon and checked out his YS 63. The Spec. sheet called out 493 grams (17.35 Oz.), on his scale it was 18 Oz. This engine would put my plane over 4 Lb. I am suspicious, did you seal your wing and fill it with helium (just kidding). Hope you are having as much fun with yours as I am with mine.

Nope, No Helium : ) Still need to put the Tank in and the control horns, But heck I only think that will be about 3 Oz. I'll re-Weigh it when it's 100% Flight ready then I'll have it exact. But I know it's going to be under 4 Lbs no way I can add that much weight.

Default Magic w/YS63

Bob;
You brought that to my attention reference weight. I've weighed this aircraft in different attitudes Pieces as well all together and the weight remains the same. 3 Lbs 10 Oz.

YS 63 w/ OS 91 Header pipe and a YS 91 Muffler with the Baffle removed.
3 Hitec 225MG 2 Aileron One Rudder with a 94102Z on the Elevator. Hitec 81MG on Throttle. Hitec 555 receiver and a 600 Ma pack

Fuse 2lbs 12 and 5/8 Oz Loaded.
Wing w/2 225MG is 14 Oz.
Total 3lbs 10 Oz.
No matter which way you go it's 3 lbs 10 Oz.

I've also sealed the Controls with Transparent Ultracote.

Balance is off it's a tad Nose heavy so I will either add weight to the Tail Skid or shift Battery and Receiver behind the wing. The Plane is so light won't matter either way. Lateral is a little off with the Ys Mounted sideways so a little weight is going to be added to the wing. Even with the adding of Weight for balance it's still going to be under 4 Lbs.

Hope this helps

Default Magic

Hey Jack.......... You are going to have a ball with that Magic. At that weight you will have more helicopter than airplane using that YS. I am waiting for a windy day to try a backward landing with mine. I don't think it will take much more than an eight MPH wind. It does everything great except for knife-edge and outside maneuvers. Mine wants to corkscrew out of tight outside loops.
Have fun......... Bob C.

Thanks Bod;
Now if it performs better than all my other ones, Sudokhoi,FF51,GeeBee,SE,Stage,Limbo,and as soon as the Stream Hyper arrives I'll have a full compliment of sky Raper's LOL. Breaks the monotony of F3A, But atleast these give adrenline rush like Pylons : ).

Now to dust off my Control Line Combats.

Default Magic Power

Today I went out flying my Magic. I know a lot of you have been putting big engines on your planes. But I have been happy with my well used Webra .32 and APC 10x4. I tached it today at 15,500 RPM. It will climb straight up without any problems so I still think that you can save weight by putting a light small displacement engine and a 4 oz fuel tank and have a great combination.

Ok Guys she's balanced and had to install the Battery behind the wing in the fuse cavity. What I did is instead of a 270 Pack I installed a 1400Mah AA Pack cutting a slot in the lower fuse behind the wing. reinforced it with CF and sealed it in. This allowed for a perfect balance without adding any Lead but it did bring the Aircraft to exactly 4 Lbs.

Now is there any Mods to this aircraft that anyone has found other than the Landing gear being weak? BTW it's charged and ready to test fly so it may go up tomorrow for her maiden flight.
I still have to many Race planes to get ready for season so it may wait until after work Tuesday.

bugsiegal,

I'll take some pictures of the tail wheel and post them here asap. In the mean time, basically I bought a tail wheel assy (don't remember what kind), and installed a control rod from the rudder servo back out the rear/ side of the fuse'. Not sure if that's the kosher way to do it, but so far everyone who's seen it seems to like the way it's done.

Back soon.

Hey Paul,

Yup, it's controllable. There is a horn that comes with the tail wheel kit. I did have to modify it. I'll take a pic of it and get it on here. The servo pic shows how the control rod is hooked up to the rudder servo. I'm sure there is a better way to do this, but it works for now. Doesn't seem to be too much for the servo.

Back soon.

Default I see now.

I posted for the photo request before i seen the last photo of the assembly.
makes sence now.
Looks good. one question though? why not install the tail wheel assembly below the rudder hinge line and run a rod though the fuse? was it an issue of clearence for the elevator or just preference?
I ask all these questions because I may order one of these planes.

I'm surprised no one said anything to you about the 10x6 prop on an OS FX .46 on any Fun Fly.

You don't want to speed prop this bird and that is just what you would be doing with the 10x6.

If your going to stay with the OS FX .46 throw away the 10x6 and go with a 12.25x3.75 prop. An 11x4 or 12x4 are also good alternatives.

I'm trying to decide on a TT .42, an OS FX .46, or even an OS FP .35 -- any thoughts out there?
