Jim,
See my post #4.With standard size servos and light weight engine you will be most happy. The instructions said they had a OS .40 FP in the prototype. I am not familiar with the TT .42 but if the only choices you have are listed I think this might be the one to go with. I don't know if the FP .35 has the guts The FX is way too much.

Hey Jim..... I'll go along with Elmshoot on this one, use the TT .42.
If you have some strong mini-servos, use them. Find yourself a lite-weight battery pack and have some real fun. Forget the fancy stuff (steerable tailwheel) and any thing that adds weight. This thing is funnest when it is lightest. Don't worry about the spindly landing struts, they are plenty strong for the kind of landings you will be making if you keep it light. My average roll-out when there is any breeze at all is measured in feet rather than yards (sometimes in inches).
Have fun
Bob C.

Bugs,
Not sure about mounting it that way. To be honest, I'll have to look at it. I think I know what you're describing, but I'll check. Are you talking about the "typical" way they are set up? Where the rudder movement itself controls the wheel?
If so, I'm pretty sure I looked at that and it didn't seem feasible. I'll take a few more pics and maybe you can tell.
From my unexperienced opinion, I'd say buy one of these. The few experienced people who have flown it, really like it.

Hiya Guys Test fly is complete! LOL The YS 63 is to much for this plane as some said prior to the test. It flew at about 45-50 at 1/4 throttle so never got past 1/2 throttle. I did while fooling around in the front yard, avoiding condo's to the east and 40 ft Poplars to the North and my house wnad antenna's to the South hit full throttle once as the Poplars were about ten feet in front Thre Full elevator and throttle and it said Hi! LOL I''m coming back to you now : ).
Hover's seemed virtually impossible as regulating power below 1/4 throttle it was still wanting to climb out. Any throtlle it would come right over with any elevator at all.
So anyhow I'm switching to the YS 53 this week and try it. I may even throw a OS 32 FX on it if this doesn't suit me.
Who? was it said this doesn't knife edge? geez this flipped right over into a knife edge loop, and the blender was very fast. Next weekend the fun begins again to check it with the other YS.

I've had a O.S. 45 FSR with a 12 /4 prop (hovered at 3/4 throttle), a TT46 with a 12.25 X 3.75, (better) and just tried a YS 53 with a 13/4 on it. Put -75 expo. in the throttle. The YS 53 is just PERFECT! You couldn't talk me out of it. It hovers at 1/3 throttle with 4 clicks of adjustment to hover with. It lands as light as any magic I've seen.
I put steerable tail wheel on it by putting on a Kelt style wheel assembly and extentending the arms (up) to the same height as the fuse (you will have to bend a new axle assembly to make it longer for the arms to mount to) and then I ran fishing line from the servo arms thru the fuse and then to the tail arms. as a pull pull system works great!
Without a doubt my favorite airplane. It feels like the cap 232 2X on Real Flight.

Thanks Ben;
I had a feeling that after the YS 63 which btw I have modified with a OS91 heaper pipe and YS 91 FZ Muffler (WAY To MUCH Power LOL) that the YS 53 would be the ticket.

Yes I agree a lightweight engine is the key. I have a os wankel on mine with a APC 10x5 I need to try a 10x4, its plenty fast, and more RPM out of the wankel will really sound great ! I like the Idea of a steerable tailwheel, I fly off of asphalt, and my skid is nearly worn through after about a dozen flights, not to mention taxiing with a crosswind is nearly impossible, it just weather vanes.

Here's an easy way of making your magic steerable. Fishing line. Make a pull pull system for the tail wheel (as shown) to the servo horns inside the fuse. Now you will have the PERFECT plane!!!!

I was wondering how the .40 LA worked with the Magic. What prop size?
I was going to put a Magnum .52 four stroke in mine but am rethinkning this decision.
Thanks,
Chris

I put a steerable tail wheel on mine also. I ran a control rod from the rudder servo and connected it to the tail wheel that way.
Chris, I think that magnum would be too much for the Magic. The 40 would be perfect. I have an OS46FX on mine and it has power to spare... but then again, what's wrong with more power! :-)

I recently ran an almost new OS .40 LA on my test stand with 15% WC and an APC 10x4 with the baffle removed from the engine I could only get 12.8 k RPM. Next i copied my Magic program into another plane program and programmed the setup so I only got 12.8k rpm on my engine. I was very disappointed. It had no verticle and it would barely hold a hover. I realize that it may pick up some more RPM with running but for now I can't recomend an OS 40 LA on this set up unless they put a tuned exhaust on the plane. Nelson makes one as well as I think some one else. Save your money and by a more powerful engine.
My normal setup is with a Webra .32, Webra short pipe from a .40, APC 10x4 at 15.8 k RPM.
Letting my webra turn up is awsome the plane will go straight up doing rolls until out of sight.

light weight and small engines is the only way with these planes, they arnt your 3D yanky profiles jobs, they fly slow, they do this best light, all you guys with 40's and above are loosing what this plane can really do. it's like relearning how to fly, i had to with my Spinsation and Unlimited.
