OS.46FX Prop for short ROG?
I'm currently using a 10x6 prop on an OS.46FX on a Sr. Kadet.
My runway is made up from pretty bumpy grass (and the occasional gift from a cow). With the 10x6, it is taking a considerable distance to ROG...probably 40 ft.
What prop would you recommend for a short take off, considering the kadet's bulky airframe? I am not really concerned with top speed...

In a nutshell, what you want to do to increase static thrust is to increase the prop diameter while keeping the RPMs up. That means giving up some pitch. So, more diameter, less pitch.
I've run a 12x4 with a 46fx and a Tower muffler. I don't know if the engine will run (well) a prop that big with the stock muffler, however. You can try pulling the baffle for a performance boost. Mine turns a 12x4 about 13K using 15% fuel and the tower muffler.

Hi!
Try a APC 11x6 if you fly a lowwinged sport aircraft or a 12x4 if you fly a slow bipe or a very slow highwinged bird with large wing area.
If you are into hovering...use a 12,25x3,75 APC.
Regards!

I would recommend an APC 12.25X3.75 for max thrust and therefore max ability to ROG HOWEVER ground clearance might be an issue with a 12.25" prop and regardless of what prop you might try there will still be a fair amount of roll out so its not as though any prop will provide the near instant lift off you desire to avoid cow pies and holes inthe pasture. If you have this problem in take off mode you also have it landing mode as well so keeping the LG on the aircraft will sooner or later become a problem.
Are you always taking off and landing into the wind? If not you should be.

Thanks for all the suggestions....I will order a few different sizes and see how they feel....the 12.25x3.75, 12x4, 11x6, 11x4....
Yes its gonna be tricky to keep the landing gear from ripping off...specially on landing......would it be a good idea to modify the landing gear so that it is held on with rubber bands?

I don't think I would use rubber bands, but you could use nylon bolts. I'm not familiar with how the landing gear is mounted on your Kadet but if its bolted on from the bottom I would enlarge the holes if need be and use 1/4-20 nylon bolts to attach it to the fuselage. Good luck!

The APC 12x4 seems to provide excellent thrust for a stock FX .46 engine/muffler setup. It's the best "power" prop I've found for the Rascal 40.
