Muffler mod - Saito 91
You might have read in a previos thread that I was unhappy with the muffler that came with my new Saito 91. I have another question though.
I was thinking of just running the threaded black pipe from the muffler. I'd drill and tap a nipple into the pipe for back pressure. Waht do you guys think, willt his work ok? As well it will leave the lines of my cowl in much better shape.
Will this make the engine significantly louder?

Mike,
In the early days of 4 strokes many engines didnt have "cans" but just an exhaust stack. I recently was flying my Enya VT 240 with straight stacks and it wasnt annoying at all. I also ran my Saito 45 with a straight exhaust.
The engine will run fine without the muffler, and allthough will be louder, it will be up to your club's sound/noise restrictions and where you fly that determines if it is too loud.
And yes, putting a pressure tap in the exuast pipe will give enough pressure for the fuel tank.
If you run a larger prop (like a 14-8 or even a 15-8, which is what I run on my 91) it will not rev up as high and stay quieter. If you are going to run a smaller prop and use 30% fuel then you will of course get louder.
