super tigre .23 muffler needed?
#1
saw a wanted ad in the Scale forum so i guess this one is OK to post.
i have a Classic Pattern project going which i will also kit later next year. the Super Tigre .23 is a great engine for the plane.
the problem is finding a muffler for the ST .23.
the NIB one i have is an original red box version that came with an exhaust butterfly, but no muffler.
the one i bought off Ebay last week was said to be new in the box...........when i got it i was amazed that it was a new case, backplate and head, but the inards were used parts......lousy compression, and to boot, a slopping conrod and almost 1/8" of end play in the crankshaft.
the seller agreed to take it back for refund, but there goes the muffler as he wanted to whole deal sent back.
there has got to be a ST .23 muffler floating around somewhere, so please post if you have one or know of one that someone wants to sell.
thx

Yes, they did make a muffler. Here is a pic; the style is exactly the same as for the larger engines. It took me a long time to find mufflers for some small Super Tigre engines I had. In the end I found two from a guy in Australia - from a wanted ad on RCG. One is a beautiful polished one in the standard style; the other is a drum or barrel shaped. So, after market mufflers exist in addition to the factory ones. When I was looking, I had a response from Raindave who indicated the K&B 20 (and 28) sportster series mufflers are a perfect fit. These show up on ebay, are available from MECOA, and used from Bob's engines http://bobsengines.com/.
The bolt size for the G20 23 and X15 15/19 are identical. The G15 may also be the same. The 40 size is too big and will not fit.

If my memory serves me well, the hole spacing is the same as the K&B Sportster .20 & .28 I use to try every muffler on every engine I had. I did the same thing with the carbs...

like Jim said too, the x series up to 25 fit this little gem too.
i think i found one that is the 1 piece design, but i'll have to buy the whole engine package to get it...............
2nd choice would be the K&B style and thx for posting that info.
w8ye-thx for the mac tip...........only thing that bothers me about their muffler is i know 2 people who used them and complained of overheating..........of course the NV could have been set wrong, but they did lose power with them as well.

thx for all the replies guys.....i finally found the muffler............it came along with a ST .23 too
since all i wanted was the muffler, i may unload the engine. seller says it is new in the box, but may have been run at the factory..........hmmmm

I usually end up buying an ST .23 w/muffler just to get the muffler to use on my ST G20/15 engines.
I completely forgot that the K&B Sportster 20/28 muffler would fit those ST engines. The good thing about the K&B mufflers is that they offer a boost in power of just about all stock mufflers. Plus they are quieter than other mufflers.
