I have an ST3000 with the same size prop. I can get mine to idle pretty low, but had to add an onboard glow and a pump.... not that that has anything to do with your problem, just an FYI.
As far as your problem, I'm assuming your carb can close down all the way? What happens if it does? Will it die?
If the carb closes and the engine won't die, I'd suspect an air leak.

yes, anythgin below say 1/4 throttle and it will die. It seems that when it is idling at it lowest it has a very strong "banging" effect kinda like a race car with a large camshaft. I just put a new plug in with an idle bar but not sure how much that will help.
thanks

I just hate to go out and spend 50-150 bucks on pumps and carbs and that still not fix it. This is my first Big Tigre engine, So that why I had one our old timers at the field tune it for me as best he could.

Cadflyer, If your engine is quiting below 1/4 throttle, It sound like your low end is two lean. I have a 2500 in a SIG Cap231, and had a similar problem. I got a ST set-up from AnnMarie Cross and the engine, as well as my other ST"S have worked flawless using her set-up. There are three adjustments, High, Low & Midrange.
WHen these are set-up right ST's run great. I posted the set-up a couple of days ago in the FUN-FLY forum. ONce you get to the FUN-FLY forum, look for the thread titled "supertigre .45 vs.". At the bottom of the first page is my post with the set-up. Give it a try. I hope it works for you like it's worked for me. Keep me posted in your progress.

I had this problem along with other problems as well with a st3000. Running ST blend fuel by omega fixed everything. You might also want to clean the carb out, the spray bar can catch the smallest particle, and make sure the spraybar is facing the right way. If its facing up you will have problems too.

I am surprised that the so called expert could not figure out that that tiger is a little much for that baby! Anyway some things you can do short of downsizing the engine would include any all of the following:
use a OS F glow plug(especially in an inverted engine)
decrease prop pitch
use a fiber prop(heavier for desired flywheel effect)
use a spinner for added flywheel effect
use a fuel with more nitro and oil
insure tank center line is 1/4" below carb center line.
make sure fuel line is as short as possible from tank to carb.
and probabaly a hundred of other things but without being able to try some of the above and evaluting your needs it is difficult to be sure.
Good luck

....but I can save you a whole bunch of messin' around.
(been there, done that)....throw that little junky carb
in the carb box....and put on a Magnum carb....
...about $34.00....same carb as the .61 to 1.20 (big),
the OS 7D carb works good too....but it will knock the
snot out of a hundred dollar bill....

I appreciate all you guys help. I just bought a fiber prop yesterday, I have a Harry Higley heavy prop nut I thought about putting on it as well. I have even thought about trying 10% nitro and 18% oil for fuel just to see how it responded. I just got a copy of AM Cross's instruction, I will try it today and see how it works. As of now the low end needle is like she said 1/2 way into the "Cat's eye" and the eye is facing towards the crank. I will also try a OS "F" plug next week. This engine seems to have extreme power as I am sure all 3000's do, I just hope I can get it running right so I can enjoy it to the fullest. As far the carb. where can i find a magnum carb that will fit this engine????
thanks

P.S.
There was much conversaiton about this engine being only almost 3 times more power than a 1/4 scale Flybaby needed, I thought it was funny when i took it to the field and watched everyone talking about it. When in flight it flies better than any plane i have ever owned, and it balanced perfectly with no weight added. I guess I got lucky.
