Hi guys.
Got a free boat and CMB engine from a friend, but there is a little flake of chrome missing on the liner.
Also the piston is damaged a little , but I have fixed it as well as I can.
Can this engine be run, and for how long
Im not going to spend any money on it.
Anyone have this exact model of the CMB 90 ?
When is it from ?
Are parts acutaly available?
I can only find newer versions of the 90`s

I fear that crome liner is going to cause you problems, and probably sooner than later. It will keep lifting off the base metal and balling up between the liner and the piston. Looks like you did a great job cleaing things up. It may be woth the price of a new piston and liner if you can find the parts.

Well it would likely run OK. But for how long would be the question. But if you wanted to run it, it would. Not sure if you lost a lot of power with it though.
usually once you get flakes and peeling off the liner, it just gets worse over time.

Sonny, I would have the liner re-chromed. But since you do not want to spend a penny, here is what I would do. I would take a Dremel and feather out that chip in the chrome, just like feathering out a leading edge chip in a full size propeller. The ratio is 10:1. Then probably the chrome would not chip any more because it would not have any thick edges or stress points.
Nice job of cleaning the engine. If anything, it makes a nice piece for the showcase.

Looks as though the boat/engine were under water for a while?

If it were my engine, I would just run it that way and see what happens. I had an old Suzuki that melted down a needle bearing and the bits nicked up the cylinder quite badly when the piston powdered. Everyone said to replace the cylinder but I just put in a new piston and rode the bike for another six years until I sold it. Don't let the engine go lean and you might just be fine.

Thanks alot guys.
Sounds like a great idea Tom.
Ill do that when I get home.
I dont know the history of this boat, other than it was sitting out in my friends driveway for some time. It was full of rain water when I got it.

2 hours with wire a brush, some scotch brite, and an ultrasonic cleaner , it sure looks a little better than I got it
Its a massive engine...I like the looks of it

Hopefully someone will see this old thread
I've got an old evo 2000, I want to run again, and my liner is worse than the one above. Any ideas on a new one, or getting it replated ???
It used to be soo fast I can't afford £500 for a new .91rs
But I could stretch to getting this done, rest of engine is perfect
