Fox has zero parts for any engines and probably never will. They haven't made any parts or engines for many years now.

Two things: Fox has not been doing model engines lately, and if they did, I don't think this engine I have is worth putting a lot of money into it.

Sport_Pilot 01-05-2015 11:57 AM

I think Fox closed down its engine business and have no parts.

hsukaria 01-05-2015 01:05 PM

I think that a few people are going to start grabbing all the junk engine parts they have and slapping engines together with whatever they have since no new parts are being made.

I'm more motivated to sell my unrun ABC Fox engines now.

Yeah, I am not a junk collector or even vintage engine collector. I don't care if it is unique, I like the latest and best. But in the case of my Fox 45, it came with an airframe that I wanted for another engine and ended up making the engine as a training/learning exercise. I want to see how much improvement I will get by using a new piston ring and a mousse can muffler. It may end up in a box with my Fox 74 since I don't have airframes for them.

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2061474http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2061475

the bore is 0.85 inch
liner O.D. is 0.967 inch
lip thickness is 0.0935 inch
total liner height is 1.5975 inch
fits in crankcase I.D. 0.9695 inch
these measurements are using my new caliper, so maybe I got too many significant digits?

I just called Fox Manuf. a few minutes ago and Sharon said they do have some spare parts, but not the Fox 45 liner that I am looking for.

I do not think that those dark spots, if they are not pits, will be a issue for using the cylinder. The question is if you have a piston that fits it OK and a decent piston ring or not.

No, they are pits. If I press my finger hard on the surface, I can feel it. However, with a new piston ring, it has good compression feel. I hold the piston at TDC against compression for a while, but there is no leak around the ring. There are no protrusions, however. I just wonder if the ring would wear prematurely because of the surface pitting?

hsukaria, I checked and although visually identical, the dims are slightly larger:

Bore is 0.903 inch
O.D. is 0.999 inch
Lip thickness is 0.0935 inch, (same as yours)
Liner height is 1.631 inch

Not sure what engine that's for.

It might be for the 60 (not sure if Eagle IV though). The bore for the Eagle IV 60 is .9 inch and the bore for the 74 is 1 inch exactly. Thanks for looking though.

Could be for the .50 too. If the ports are stamped and not machined, it could be a .50 liner.

If that's the case, you could use it for your Franken-Fox engine.

I got a good .50 Piston, liner, and Rod from another RCU member. I needed it to run the diesel head.

That's great. I will continue to look for a liner for the Fox 45 since I won't be running the engine until it warms up around here....should be around June.:(

We are a little warmer over here, +5 instead of -5:cool:. I will be in the basement working on more engines and planes for the rest of the winter.

You been ice fishing lately? I bet the fish went down to the basement too.

Nah. No money to buy bait with. I fired the auger up last week though just in case.

hsukaria 01-07-2015 11:36 AM

By the way, if anybody needs a small case carb, I have one. It's in pieces and missing at least the barrel spring. I won't be using it. I am not sure how well it works since I don't have an engine for it.

So, you won't be interested in the small carb I have spare? I am giving it away in case you need it for your small 40.
