Work is commencing on the left panel. Soon will mark the end of the framing and sheathing phase and start on the finish. I used to dread that point, but now I really look forward to it. Progress is good.

I really enjoy the framing up of wings. It now takes me a lot longer 'cause I think it out more. I use custom jigs a lot. And sometimes the set up can eat a lot of time for non symmetrical foils. But I enjoy all of that more now. The extra effort up front pays at the end immensely.

Well, keeping with the theme of this build, I'm re-cutting half of the ribs. Again. For one, I spaced out and drilled the wing tube holes through all of the W5 ribs, which is about 3/4 of the wing. I only needed to drill out 5. And the ones that do need to be drilled for the tube, got drilled in the wrong place. Rats! It gets old doing every thing three times, but I want it done right, so I'll do another re-do

Yeah, but I've wanted a Mr. mulligan since I realized how much I loved airplanes. The only way I'll have what I want is to build it myself. So...plus, it would be kind of dumb to give up now. Structurally, she's almost done. Nah, I'm flying this one.

Hey Tom. You feeling better? How long did you say it took to get your wing tube from TNT? I ordered mine three weeks ago and still haven't got it. I called twice with no response. Just wondering if I should be getting worried.

It took 13 days.
With no response, I'd cancel and order elsewhere.
Send TnT a link to this post, just to let them know that they are getting bad publicity.

I just sent them an email stating that I was unhappy with the service so far and to please respond ON MONDAY to save me from canceling the order. I also stated that I had been planning to order more stuff from them along with other people on the forums and that if they wanted to avoid the bad publicity , all they have to do is call or email. I hate that this world is full of dishonest people and scammers. Just about everything we need has to be ordered on line and you have no clue who is on the other end taking your hard earned money. I could always order a CF set, but that would end up costing me double. Very frustrating.

Not to say there dishonest. I'm sure there not. But being ripped off a few times, I start thinking this way when they don't answer phones or return calls. Its sad, really.

Typical fall New England weather has granted me a day off allowing me some much needed shop time. I tried assembling the left wing panel differently from the right . I didn't care for the way the right went together and had a few issues that were time consuming to fix. This one is going together much nicer. On the right side, I did like the instructions ( if you'd call them that.) said and pinned the rear spar, glued the ribs to rear spar, add top front spar, flip wing, blah blah blah. Turned into nothing but a headache. This time I put down the trailing edge sheet and glued the rear bottom spar to it. Next I pinned down the front bottom spar and glued the ribs. This allowed the TE sheet to lift a bit so I shimmed it up to the right height. Next I added all the shear webs while the entire wing was pinned down flat and straight which is really where the right side went wrong. By the time I added the shear webs the first time, the wing was already up off the bench and flipped allowing it to twist and warp. Now, I have all shear webs, front and back and top and bottom rear sheets glued before un-pinning and moving the wing. Makes a lot more sense to me anyway. Now, I need to lam up the tip, build aileron and flap, install LE, shape, and build the servo bays. Still a ways to go.

On another note, I'm off to the new house to start on the new work shop. I'll be knocking down a wall in the basement and building a new one . There is an already made workshop there already, but it's way too small. Smaller than what I have now. But, not for long. I want to get it done NOW so I can just move right in and keep building. I don't want to load it up with tools and planes just to have to move everything out again to do the work. Yay! New work shop! How exciting!

So who's the metal expert in the bunch? My question is this. I need to make my own dural landing gear as I can't find anyone to custom make them other than TNT, who I can't trust as far as I can chuck em. That's not very far. I know that 6061 is the most commonly used aluminium for these LG's, but why not use stronger? Such as 7050? Is there a reason most use 6061? I don't know a lot, but was looking at McMaster carrs site, and 7050 seems like it would be much better at standing up to the kind of loads we encounter. Someone school me please on aluminium. C'mon, I know there's some real smart fellows that read these forums.
