Steve I finally got my new bench finished and the wood out on the bench. As far as I can see it's not horrible. 2 of the dye crunched parts are mangled and the ply floor is warped bad but I'm guessing that could be from this kit being 20+ years old. The only thing I didn't like was the paneling type wood they supplied for the main fuselage.

Likely Luann. I have used small amounts with out issue. But a large structural piece I would want to replace it or reinforce. And I maybe totally wrong on that. I have used it glow powered air boats with great success, despite some poor handling of the controls. Impromptu beaching. running into things. So it is stronger than one would think. In fact I am wanting to make another air boat with a 31cc Ryobi for power out of 1/8" Luann. Put removable plane catcher on the front for retrieving dead stick planes on the water.
How are you doing Steve? All settled into the new house? You were working on shop area. How is that coming? I may have to move the little bit of shop area I have into our storage rental. Plenty of room if I do that. No power though. But I have looked at 800 watt inverters, and they would power any of my tools.
Still have not managed to go flying, but I got a plane ready.

RR, good to hear you broke into your kit. as for the plywood, I didn't use any that came with it. not to say that it wouldn't hold up, I just didn't want to be the one to find out. I ended up using mostly one eighth inch birch ply. heck, I still have 75% of the kit in the box. mine apparently wasn't in as good of shape as yours.lol. I'm still waiting for my mail order, but I have gotten a little bit more done on mine. mostly just sanding and stuff. I think I might do the top hatch next. in the meantime, I've been working on a scratch built wing for a giant scale Corsair. almost done.

Sometimes the skill is a euphemism for the doe it over till you get it right mentality.
I have had my share of more than 3 tries. Ya want to scream and throw a temper tantrum. But I always find my self going at it again, sometimes after a long absence from the offender (sanity break).

Mike, if you want, I'll post some pics when I get to that point. Might not be for a while though. I won't build the flaps and ailerons till the bottom is closed up and I won't close it up till I have retracts. I'll probably put it aside now and finish up the Mr. M.

I have been trying to get to the point where I can fly again. So the projects that I was working on (the Great Lakes and the CL Ringmaster bi plane) are on hold till I can get some stick time again. So I finished up a trainer I had. And then started test my gear. After a couple of days of trying the support gear I got all of the batteries going.
I fired up the little OS .25 in about 2 turns. Adjusted needles, and all was sweet. So I then wanted to test out the range of the RX, so took a walk working throttle to test radio connection. I ended up getting about double what is supposed to be a real good range check distance. And that on a 72mhz, $17 Corona RX.
So I was real jazzed about it.
After all of that I discovered a big crack in the left gimbal of my TX (72 mhz super seven futaba), at the base of the stick.
So I got to some how fix that. Can't replace TX at this time, Just no spare $$

Hey Ken, I'm not too sure if what I have will work. I thought you just needed the thumb part. This is probably the closest I have and it looks to be different style.

Ha I wish I just needed the thumb part. I am debating trying to wick some heat thinned epoxy into the crack. But if it goes to far, then toast.
Thanks for checking. Think I will post over in the radio section and see if I can stir anything

Steve,
From what I have read, the gull wing of the Corsair is one of the hardest wings to get right.
Looks great.
The Corsair is on my list one day. They look so good in the sky.

Thanks Kevin.I can attest to that. There were a couple times I almost threw in the towel. On another note, I finally ordered an engine and servos today for Mr. M. I got a DA 50R and Hitec 645 MG's. Whew, I almost forgot how expensive this hobby was. Now I remember. Lol.

Hi Steve
It is nice to hear from on the forums. I posted in the Futaba section and a Futaba rep told me where to try for parts. I sent an inquiry to http://www.radiosouthrc.com/radio_repair.htm about a replacement gimbal.
I think in the meantime I am going to try inject a tiny amount of epoxy into the crack and also on the exposed little nub at the top of the cracked part I am also going to wet with epoxy some thread and wrap the little nub. Got nothing to loose I figure.
When I have $$ money I intend to buy a FrSky Taranis+. $200. But that will be some time yet.
Still trying to get our own roof. That is 1rst priority.

I hear ya. There's a guy in our club that's kind of " the radio guy" if you will, he uses that radio and swears its more reliable and better range than what everyone else is using. I'll tell you what, that radio does things I would never even dream of. Kind of makes me want one.

Glad to hear you got that sorted out Ken. Gotta have a reliable radio to fly, eh? Well, I just ordered the cowl and pants as well. FS had two cowls to choose from. A short one, and a long one. I got the long one with the thinking that I can have more room to balance the plane if it should need nose weight. And if it doesn't, i can just cut the cowl down to the length I need. It was only $4 more for the deeper one. All that's left to buy now is a reciever and a couple of LIFE's. I guess I'd better get a move on it. The reason I went with the DA 50 was because this airframe is similar in size and weight to my Rearwin Speedster that flies absolutely perfectly with a 50CC up front. One thing I don't like with these vintage kits is that there's not a lot of info out there. Ol Mr. Nosen recommends a 60 size glow with a gear reduction. That gives me nothing. Lol. I did talk to a guy who flies his with a G38 but wishes he had more. So the 50 seemed like a good choice to me. Also, I have an Aeroworks Checkmate 50 CC biplane that I've been dying to fly. Plan is to break the DA in on the checkmate and get another 50 CC for it when the Mr. M is ready. I guess I better get to work on it.
