Hi hipik634,
Thanks for the links I enjoyed looking at your build. I love the way the gear was done. I wish the laser cutter had an english language version opf their website. For those of you loss on translation or a little lazy this airplane has a wingspan slightly over 59", the fuselage is about 41" long, and she weighs in at 3 lbs 4 ozs. I was unable to decode the engine size what did you put on it hipik634?
Mike

Gear is a story of its own.its certainly usable on tarmac but you need to be very careful on landings, any crash or missed runway is destructive. I have repaired it like eight times, New I am thinking of replacement for kind of wire gear with higher tolerance to improper landings.
But the way it flies is awesome, it is trainer with acro abilities. Very neat to fly.
have a look on these videos of it if you wish http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...f5CuOA9FIr2k0E

i had a little mishap yesterday. changed my tx for a new model and while resetting elevator i probably didnt tighten the screw good enough. I've been able to hold the elevator up enough for flight, but then the plane entered barrel roll and i was unable to recover. still not sure what caused the roll. I thought of loosing signal, but failsafe should have hold it ...
i tested the range before flight and it was at least threefold of anticipated range, so i am not sure what was the cause.
at least plane still has a form of a plane not a pile of wood

I do, but you know how it is sometimes you just need a break from a current project so I started working on the DR.1. It was started so that was nice and I haven't built a stick built in so long it's a nice change of pace. I'll probably have to get it to the point of covering and then go back to the 182 until I can afford to buy the Solartex. I already have enough fiberglass and epoxy or PVA finishing to glass it and the paint is bought so I won't have to purchase anything (I hope) famous last words.

you mean get ready for wire gear damage is not so extensive ...
might have the cause - as I tried scan mode/normal mode on aurora I found out, that the switching didn't worked correctly, so I reflashed rx and tx. Next time i will try it with some sailplane, as it is more likely to hold a while if a signal is lost

It's been awful quiet around here of late so I thought I would post something. I received an email from my old friend Mike living in Bangkok Tailand last night. Mike is a retired British doctor and member of the Aerospace Medical Association Royal Aeronautical Society and one heck of a R/C airplane designer. (I know why is he slumming with a dumb Okie like me?) Mike has probably loss more brain cells then I ever possessed! Mike has done good for himself since his school days of tobogganing down the hill using the bottom half a P-47 drop tank during WWII.
Well to cut to the chase, Mike sent me a few photos of his two most recent builds along with and old one we share in common. So put your thinking caps on and see if you can identify these gems. Winner gets a burnt cookie! I'll even give hints! The first picture (left to right) is the rarest only 5 produced and was a war prize and wears the livery of one of the victors. The second and third picture was used by a number of countries and had less than 400 produced. (The old reprobate hold it in picture No. 2 is my friend Mike.) The last airplane in picture No. 4, alas only had 20 airplanes produced before the design was scrapped.

Wow the Zepplin (Dornier?) looks spiffy in American colors. Back in the late 70's or early 80's Airpower magazine did an article on McCook Field covering a lot of the experimental work during the 20's and early 30's. I've been hunting for a copy of the magazine but no luck. There is probably a book's worth of stuff to say about that era. There is also a fund of prewar Japanese aircraft that has barely been scratched in terms of R/C scale.

The Zeppelin-Dornier D1 model was featured in two issues a UK magazine with the plans included. Mike's airplane was powered by an Enya .46 4C Type II. I found a NIB old stock engine that had never seen fuel to power the airplane I built of Mike's design. It was this airplane that led to our long distance friendship.

Well it ppened broke down anbought my own Christmas gift this year, a Rich Uravitch design Cessna C-195 Businessliner short kit. Here is a photo of what it looks like built before paint and what the finished product will look like. The plans with plastic as well as the short kit are available from Rich's site. My winter build will be to finish the two projects I'm stalled on but this looks to be such an easy build I may get to this one next year. I like an easy, not quite instant gratification project occasionally between more involved efforts..

Gentlemen,
For the past several years I have been running "Warbirds over Missouri." I'm about to pass that torch to our new club president and now am considering having a "Golden Age Aircraft Fly-In." I plan to encourage IMAA-size aircraft, but will allow smaller aircraft but restrict Park Flyers and flat foamies.
First of all, are there others doing this type of event in the Midwest?
'
Does this have any appeal to you guys?
Thanks in advance for your replies!

Back when IMAA was new, and I was young,I travelled across the East Coast to those Fly-Ins. I really liked the diversity of Aircraft, and I learned so much about everything Aeronautic..I probably couldn't travel to your event, but I wish you the best..
It's hard to get enough guys together nowadays to limit yourself to just one facet of modeling (Classics)....If you're up to it, I'd suggest a General Fly-In, featuring Classics, but allowing all types... You're pretty well ensured of a good turn out, and you should show a small profit.
I live on the East Coast, and we have a Grass-Roots Airport / Museum (Massey Maryland)...I've broached the subject of a 'one time' event for ALL models ever built..It would encompass every facet of modeling...Early 'feelers' indicate a good response, and enthusiasm is high..Getting help is a bummer, but we think that the head of each type of group (Controline, Old Time Gas, Freeflight, R'C, Rubber, etc) would be willing to work a one time event.. We're starting now, for an October 2018 Fall Get Together.
It starts with us and a large amount of 'want-to'..

So what you're suggesting is a large scale Fly-In as opposed to a one-type only affair? I don't have a problem with that. Our club doesn't charge admission fees and offers a free lunch with donations accepted. We are into supporting the hobby rather than making money and encourage other clubs to do the same.
I'll talk to others in the club that might be interested and report back.

Chris,
Thank you, do I get a number?
I don't know Jim Pepino's 1/4 scale one? Short kit?
That's the old Pica kit, I believe 1/7 scale at 55". They made one at 72" 1/4 scale. Every now and again you see one for sale.
Thanks again.

FlyerinOKC,
Well, I guess it will have to do, Bummer.
But see if you can rethink that and allow 007. Yippie!
Is there a rule that states members must have numbers that are in order?
"The weird and unusual."
Number One,
Whatever you decide, thanks!
Means a great deal to me to be part of this Brotherhood. My interest in the Golden Era goes back to the early 80's when I scratch built my first Gee Bee.
Thanks again Mike.
