Bill, FWIW I have a Brillelli 25cc in my Stearman. I think it is about the same size as the 1/5 Waco. The plug and wire is all that you can see. My Stearman is quite heavy, 14+ lbs. and the engine flies her very scale like. I think any of the newer EI engins around this size would fit, but she don't sound like a round engine!

John,

another question, which font type is the registration on the fuse side?
I will make a file of it and let it plot on a painting mask.

Bernie

Hi Bernie - I don't know if this is what you wanted or not. It is the font (or pretty close) to what I'll be using for the registration letters on the side of my Canadian Waco. The font will have to be "Unzipped" and installed in windows then you can do whatever you want with it in any Microshaft program or graphics prog. Any problem just PM me!

Unfortunately I can't figure out how to upload a data file so PM me with your e-mail address and I'll E-mail it to you. It is not a very large file, only about 100kb.

Bill I only fly gas .Stay away from the 20 un less you want to spend the money for ch Ing. the Ing . it comes with really eats up the batteries , like 3 flights on a 2500 mah. you would have to add weight with the 20. The 26 is a verry good eng. for the Waco. and balances perfect with no added lead. this is just my opinion.

Jacque,

Do you know anything about the Fuji-Imvac engines? I was thinking about the 24cc version, but am also considering the 32cc as well.

John Howard.

Thank you for the picture and comment on the OX-5 powered Waco, That is one beautifull airplane.
I was not aware there was such aircraft.

Angel,

If you come out this way next year, plan on coming out over Fathers day weekend, that is when the AWC will be holding the 2008 Waco Fly In. There will be information on the AWC web site http://www.americanwacoclub.com/

I'kon Northwest http://www.ikonnwst.com/index.htm makes the Waco 10, Taperwing and UPF-7 kits in the same scale as the Pica YMF (1/5th) and are about the same size (72-73" ws). The Waco 10 (1927) was redesignated GXE in 1928 and some had the OXX-6 engine. Other varients of the Model 10 family include those with the third letter "O" as in ASO, CTO etc. More history and a breakdown of the Wacky Waco Codes can be found in the Aerofiles site http://aerofiles.com/_waco.html

If you consider that the model was intended to be flown with a .60 2 stroke, all the way up to one of the big (for the day) .90's, then yes, the 1.20 will fly the model well. Most of us do use larger engines though. The twins sound better, but then the Gas burners are stone reliable, and cost next to nothing to operate. The only problem that I had when using the 1.20 OS 4 stroke was that I had to add some weight to the nose. I used a much larger flight battery to accomplish this.

Bill I have never used a Fuji eng. ,But some of the guys I fly with have. there advice is ,if you buy a Fuji get the one with magnito ,the electronic version really puts out excess RF. Even with PCM they would get glitches. and yes they installed all radio gear as far away as possible.. 3W makes a very good eng., but you are talking big bucks compared to Zenoah.

I guess I did the right thing, since I did buy the Fuji-Imvac, and since the LHS did not have one with the electronic ignition, I went for the one with the Magneto. The down side is that I have to make an exhaust header so I don't have to butcher the front of the fuse and cowl. There is probably one available out there, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem. I wish it had a side mounted exhaust. I might trade it for a new G-26, if anyone knows someone with one. This one is the BT-32B. It has more power than the G-26, and is about the same weight (which is to say...porky).

(I was given this high number because I stated that the WACO Brotherhood was better than the one for the Bulldog).

Bill, Slimline makes a Pitts-style muffler for the BT-32. Part # 2202, costs a paltry $89.99. Probably already set up with a smoke nipple. I didn't find a picture of it, but it probably closely resembles the one on my G-26, which is a Slimline.

ken, the BT-32-B is a rear exhaust engine. I need to find one that will enable me to put the muffler on the side of the engine. Otherwise, I will have to grossly modify the firewall of the Waco, and I don't want to go there. I am thinking about another trip to the LHS and getting a G-26 instead. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Brothers,

For those of you contemplating building a Waco UPF-7, such as the I'kon N'W kit, Airborne Media has come out with a Aero-Pac of NC 32158. The CD has an eight point walk around, detail shots, a high resolution Waco logo and a 3-view as a bonus. See the New product page on RCU for more info. Ken and I had the privilage of seeing this plane at the AWC Fly In in June 2007 and it is owned by John Gerth of Indiana. As you can see in the picture below it is Cream (Pale Yellow) with Brown trim and Gold pinstrips.

I just checked Airborne's Website http://www.airbornemedia.com/store/aeropacs.htm and they also have another UPF-7 (NC 30188) (Red on Red) and YMF-5 Classic (NC 14081) that I have also photographed at the Fly In and have posted pictures of. The drawings included with the YMF look very much like the Paul Matt drawing (plate 2 of 3) he did for the Historical Aviation Album.

IT WORKS ! IT WORKS ! I got the Saito 150 fired up today (fuselage minus wings) to see if my homebrew muffler would work. By Golly, I didn't find any exhause leaks and my soldering job held up, it sounds kinda neat, and looks neat also as the exhaust blows out of both exhaust pipes. Finlly got it balanced front to rear and laterally, so now I can get color on the bottom wing and finish with th the clear coat. The cockpit is almost done, need to find a pilot and get the floor in.

Hey Bill - That your wheel pant sures just like the Lt's - just bass-ackwards . I like the yeller and brown paint scheme in the pics John (skylarkmk1) posted. Imagine how flat black with a dull yeller will shine after clear coat/compounding/waxxing. Actually gold and black would be more ARMYish... Golden Knight's colors (sorta).
