Getting parts together for my future build of the 1/6 scale YMF-3. Looking for fiber glass cowl and wheel pants. Fiber Glass Specialties make a cowl but I've read that it has paired blisters and all the pics I've seen are not paired, but semetrical around the cowl. Have they updated or is that the cowl one must settle for unless they want to build one themselves, which I donot want to do

Mike I don't know of anyone making the cowl with out the paired blisters you may have to settle for what you can get. Did your kit come with the blisters you can glue on?

Mike nothing wrong with using the paired blister cowl, it just depends on what radial was in the full size at the time!

Well guys I was about to give the game away last night. Had the Waco all rigged and installing new rudder cables when all of a sudden CRASH, I can tell you the sound of a 55 lb model falling off a 4 ft table onto a concrete floor is bloody horrible!!!. Turned the lights out and went to a mates place for a cry and beers.

It does not look too bad today and I have almost fixed the damage and what I will leave till latter looks like normal hanger rash---another hard earned lesson!

Ok need some input, trying to cover up a bit of the hanger rash due to the table drop test. I was thinking of a pitot tube or maybe drill a bigger hole and put some clear plastic under the alloy cover to simulate a wing camera which nowadays could very well be an option that could be ordered at the production stage.

You could actually mount a camera, like a Mobius, if it will fit. A landing light, although it's not in a standard location for that. A stall warning horn? How about a machine gun barrel?

As I stated when I joined this tread I've been away from the body for a long long time. Radio equipment has changed ALOT. Is there a good one stop reference source to bring me up to speed. I want to put quality equipment in my planes.

Mike, You would be safe with any of the major manufacturers, JR, Futaba, and there are others. One of the good things now a days, with 2.4 Ghz, the gear is almost bullet proof. If you are buying new, allow your self room to expand. In other words don't limit yourself to a 4 or 6 channel thinking "that's all I need" believe me, you will soon out grow your transmitter and you will be looking for a replacement. Me, I tend to Futaba transmitters and receivers with Hi-Tec servos, but that is just me, for what it is worth.

Mike I agree with Jim, my choice is JR on everything but that is just because that I is what I have always had and have had no radio problems at all. 2.4 has been a great leap forward as far as radio reliability is concerned. I still only use NiMH bats but there are other options, but I would not go back to NiCad. Most or just about every radio set up will require at least 6v.
Back to my hanger rash!!! decided to simulate an inspection cover and will touch up the other scratch latter with an airbrush.
regards tmac.

Dan I have her all ready for this weekend but not sure if the whether will play its part. I have been so amazed at the small amount of damage compared to the hell of a noise from the table drop that I have concluded that the cowl and the ply brackets must have absorbed a lot of the energy along with the landing gear. With this in mind I decided to remove all the covers from the landing gear to check for any damage and found that every thing was fine. If I can get a flight in this weekend I will endeavour to get a video.

Well guys we had a very exciting days flying! I think I was far too confident and the Waco almost bit me twice. First take-off she dipped the right wing and if I had not had her set on high rates I doubt that I would have been able to pick it up. On one of the landings I decided to go around and I really was too low and too slow applied full throttle, right wing drops and once again high rate just saved the day! I have installed another 1 1/2 pound in the nose since the last flights, I think I will take it back out before the next outing.
We only had an iPod to do the vid and it is very ordinary . You can view it on YouTube under---

Dan some of those jets look massive!!! what scale are they? My buddy has a CompARF jet and about to get another, we can only fly jets in the winter in AUS because of fire restrictions and most of it is at full scale fields due to the model fields are mostly grass and a bit rough.
It was good to finally bring the Waco home without a lot of alterations to do! Will try and get better Vid next time out. We are hoping for some cooler weather so we can spend a whole day at the field and crank up the club BBQ
