RE: Midwest Tri-Squire
It should be possible to lighten this airframe greatly in a laser cut kit.... If you get this going, let me know. I would love to do some R&D for you and compare with the original. You should be able to get this light enough for a park size BL motor. I am thinking of a swiss cheese airframe of light ply and balsa. A low dihedral wing and strip ailerons would turn this into a nice sport model. The whole time in building the kit I have had plans to build a second wing, flat with ailerons, and maybe make a taped on rudder extension... stick a Power 25 on the nose and I'd have a decent aerobat. Quite the convertible

RE: Midwest Tri-Squire
At long last the batteries have arrived and I have done a few checks and linkage adjustments to zero out the trims on my radio. Earlier I mentioned that the Power 15 had plenty of power, but was not over powered as I originally expected. While checking over everything I noticed I had the wrong prop on the nose. For some reason I had a 10x5 [&:] where I had meant to have a 10x8... I guess at a glance the 5 on the APC prop can look like an 8. This explains the lack of expected power from the BL motor. I was thinking of going up to an 11x8, but when I noticed the 10x5, I just installed the originally intended 10x8 in it's place. I hope to get her back in the air over the next week or so.
Here are the final pics of the TS. If you notice, I cut out the windows instead of painting them on... It just looks nicer.

Not flying the real old stuff, but I am still on 72mHz... I actually just bought a new radio a few weeks back. I spent yesterday evening programming everything in while watching the LSU/UF game... I am still upset about that one. Anyway, I have all JR gear and a Spektrum module so I can slowly switch over to 2.4, and it opens me up for the Bind and Fly Arfs they have now. This hobby has come a LONG way since the days of the escapement based Tri Squire.

What thrust angles are shown on the plans? Mine is trimmed with lots of right rudder for straight flight. Other than lower dihedral, everything looks ok.

I cannot find a listed thrust angle on the plan. I believe I am actually flying with a small bit of left trim on the rudder, but I also have the full dihedral in the wing.

Thanks, it's probably zero - zero. There's no warps and everything looks square. I'll make a new mount plate with maybe 3 degrees right thrust. Must be that high torque OS .20 on the nose.

RE: Midwest Tri-Squire
I see this is an older forum, but I have just completed my version of an electric Tri Squire from plans. I used a 3536-10 brushless outrunner with a 1500 LiPo 3s pack. I am hoping that a 10/5 electric prop will work well, it does pull hard. The finished weight came in at 2 1/2 lbs ready to fly. Nice not to have to worry about fuel proof paint, throttle linkage, or fuel tanks and lines! I have included a couple of pictures, one of my original TS in 1968, with a K&B 19 greenhead, and Controlaire 123 radio, it flew well with rudder and throttle, no elevator!! the other 2 pictures are of the newer version.

RE: Midwest Tri-Squire
I finally got around to redesigning the Tri Squire for laser cutting. This was the first RC plane I ever built back in the 80's and I've been wanting to build another for probably the last 15 years. I kept the shape and over-all design the same, but made significant changes to the style of construction. I hate building over plans, so the structure has been redone to be completely interlocking and self aligning. It looks like the AUW will be around 36oz or so. With any luck, I may have it ready to maiden some time this weekend.

RE: Midwest Tri-Squire
It's been a super busy summer, but I did manage to get it done enough to give it a few flights. Flies just like I hoped it would. I need to do the trim at this point and make a plug for the vacuum formed cowl. I made a poor video using a keychain cam velcroed to my hat.

RE: Midwest Tri-Squire
I have my redesign ready for production, I've just had so much other stuff going on, I haven't been able to put any time into getting the manual done. If there is interest, I could put together some basic illustrations and get a couple of kits cut...

RE: Midwest Tri-Squire
Thanks - I built a couple a long time ago and am interested more out of nostalgia than anything else. If you put any kits up for sale, please just let me know. Thanks again!
