Gday,
now I know the instructions from Tf say to balance the place at F6 3 1/4 " back from the LE and with the retracts lowered. Now lots of people have been telling me this is wrong and it must be balanced with wheels up.
Well I followed their advice and balanced with wheels up and lo and behold the thing was VERY nose heavy, it fell out of rolls and on finals as soon as power came off and flaps came down it fell out of the sky.
Got it recovered - or may mate Ron did.
I'd like to know what the view of TF is on this?
In my veiw the instructions are spot on.
cheers
Peter

RE: TF P40 CofG
thanks Bill for your reply.
As I listened to all the online "experts" I balanced with wheels up - hence it was VERY nose heavy. Took and flew about generally well apart from rolls, whereby it fell out of and upon coming in for finals. as soon as power was cut it fell out of the sky.
will do another test flight next week this time is has been balanced IAW TF reccomended CofG.
cheers
Peter

Dear Friend
I have one Topflite P40 , with 4"" metal spinner , 3 blade 14x7 Master Airscrew propellor, engine Rossi 65.
In the first flight the plane was almost enable to take off . The engine work very well and is powerfull . The weight in under the specification .
Could be the propellor the problem ? Did the 2 baldes fit the solution ? What propellor and size does fit.
Happy New Year

A 14 x 7 propeller is just too much prop for your engine, even a 2-blade prop. We'd go with an 11 x8, 12 x 7, or 12 x 8 2-blade prop to start with. Get the engine turning in its best RPM range and see how it flies. The airplane should be propped more like a sport plane. Do not try to get a scale-sized propeller for flying. Use a scale-type propeller for display only. A 2-blade propeller will be your best bet for good flight.
