Default Top Flight P51D Mustang

I recently purchased the P51D Mustang Giant scale Gold Edition kit from Tower Hobbies.
I have a concern/question.

In the manual on page -11- "Build the Fin", step 4 says: Center the fin TE on the aft edge of the ribs and glue in place.
My question is:
Is the TE suppose to be as wide or a bit wider than the aft edge of the ribs?
I used part P51GW01 parts A snd F, but the die cut was so bad or wrong that the TE is not wide enough for the aft rib edge. Am I missing something?

See photos.

We're checking to see what the problem might be. The trailing edge should be at least the same size as the ribs, if not slightly larger. Unfortunately, if the dies are indeed bad, then it will be weeks until new ones could be made and then new parts made.

You can either sand the ribs to fit, or use small strips of balsa to build up the trailing edge piece to fit. Either way will work. Sanding the ribs won't hurt performance or appearance in any noticeable way, though you'll have to make sure the rudder fits to it and isn't noticeably wider.

Thanks Bax,
I think I'll build up the TE rather than sanding the ribs.
Please keep me informed of what you find out.

BTW, the P51GW01 parts (A+F) are also used in the section "Building the Wing", page 14, #4.
Same problem...

regards,
Denis

I had one of the R&D guys check out your problem. The parts you used for the fin were taken from the wrong sheet.

The fin's parts are on the die-cut sheet P51G-S02. You used wing parts, which is why they didn't fit correctly. If you haven't gotten too far, you can carefully cut off the piece and put the correct one in.

[sm=thumbup.gif] Well, BAX...
Dopey me! All I had to do was look a little closer at the plans to see the die cut part numbers were right there...
DOH!
Thanks again, and I apologize for wasting your precious time.

You haven't wasted anybody's time. We're here to help. Over the years, I think I've made just about every mistake you can when building a model.
