I seem to have a problem mounting the landing gear axles
to the 1/8 aluminum gear.

The combined thickness of the 1/8 gear and the 1/8 wheel pant
only leaves 3/16 of thread engagement for the nut. This equates
to 3 turns for the nut. Not nearly enough for a 20 pound plane.

Rule of thumb is that the nut should engage at least 1 times the dia
of the thread. In this case it should be at least 5/16 ( 6 1/2 threads.)

The only way the existing axles will work is without the pants and
I'm sure you'll understand why that won't happen.

What do you suggest as a reasonable solution to this problem ?

Thank you
Roby Prentiss

We can only state that we haven't had a problem installing the gear with the provided axles. They're just installed and wrenched tight. A bit of thread-locker may be desired, but that's about it. The nut only holds the axle to the gear leg, it doesn't take any of the weight, so as long as it's tight and won't come off, you'll be fine.

Thank you for your response.

I'm still not "real "comfortable with such little thread engagement
but unless I can come up with something else better I'll run with it.

Thanks again
Roby
