Default Tail fin question

After my metal protrusion on the tail fin getting bent some many times, it finally broke off - what is it for (besides getting caught in everything it can get caught in!)? My tail rotor has probably 3/8 to 1/2" clearance with it off!

I am using a Blade CP tail rotor, but I thought they were the same diameter.

It's main purpose is to keep the rear rotor from hitting anything, like when you land or take off by keeping the tail up.

Yeah, but pressing down on the tail, when the fin hits (minus the metal hook), I have ample clearance!

It only has to keep the rotor slightly off the ground, about 1/4" longer that the blade is enough.
