I just bought a gy240 plus a 12 amp esc to upgrade. The heli is stock except for a direct drive tail.
So the gyro will do the beeps initialize as far as i can hear, but my tail has no spin none at all?
I have also just put a new 3-1 E board on the heli also which has three screws instead of one and 2 plastic dials so now im really screwed ? anyone have a eboard with screws in it if so send me a pic of your working helis e board please and thank you?
So im confused I have a heli worth 150 + 200+ in electrics and all it will do is spin in circles with no drive to the rear motor, Im frustrated if you have any suggestions ideas please help

Well I would go Right then beep the left then beep then try and nothing never went right left right?
But I dropped it off at the LHS they said bring it by no problem we will check it out for ya so hopefully the heli expert there can get it going for me.

You can try this setup. It uses the stock board and the stock 3in1.

Well I talked with my LHS and this was tried.
All connection's were tested and everything is hooked up correctly.
New speed control added same thing no gain from the tail.
Then the gy240 was tested with a different gyro initializes fine.
My questions is would E-Board screw setting have anything to do with this I had recently installed a new E-Board from factory, could that be not set properly and causing 0% tail gain?
Or should I use a smaller speed control ? 7am ESC instead of the 12amp ESC? or maybe even higher? 25amp?
please if you have installed a gy240 on your axe cp and input would be helpful.
Thanks in advance and a big thanks to PilotLight & blvdbuzzard.

I gave all the parts to my buddy to try a seperate package, today he tried the arming of the tail, he had no problems. I gave him a walkera g006 gyro, a eflite 5 AMP esc, a electrifly 25 amp main esc. The only thing he screwed up was he had the pitch and alerion servos swapped on the receiver so it was pitching the wrong way on the back side of the swash. Now, when he powers the main esc(25 amp), the tail gyro initializes and then you move the rudder full left and then center. In your case, you may need to hold full left or right when powering up the heli, then go full opposite of that command, then back to arm it. But the sad part is, while playing with the helimax transmitter, I think I found what makes it glitch, the servo reverseing switches. Make a long story short, while playing with servo plugs and swaping servos I reversed the switches and everything was fine, well I switched it a few more times in the setup and low and behold, in normal position it did nothing with the stick moving, switch it bach and it would work fine. So here I am trying to find out why it will movw the servos in one position on the switch but nothing the other way. As I go to switch it from normal to reverse just lightly touching the switch with a allen key makes all the controls glitch. No matter how softly I touch the switch, the receiver glitches. I'm just guessing it's due to the cheap parts used in this heli to keep it under $200, RTF. Other than that, it works perfectly with a std HH gyro and a 5 amp esc on the tail and a 25 amp esc on the main.

I installed the GY240 gyro and the Electrifly 12amp ESC in accordance with Heli-max installation instructions, exactly. The helicopter flies perfectly. No problems at all. Check all of the wiring connections, especially to the receiver. I don't see how a new E-board could be effecting it.
You are using Lipo's correct. Upon plugging the battery in, I get a series of beeps. I then go full right rudder, another series of beeps, then full left rudder, a few more beeps. If then I go right rudder again, the tail rotor spins. I have been flying with this now for over a month at least once a day.

Well mine has initialized but the rear motor does absolutely nothing no spin.
Does the ESC come factory set for lipo or NICD ?
I have no touched the jumper on it now that I think of it I took it out of the case and soldered it to the power connect and connected it to the gy240.

Are you sure the tail motor isn't burnt out. As soon as I installed the gyro and the ESC, my original tail motor burnt out. I replaced it with a GWS motor and have not had any problems since. You could also check to see if you have voltage at the motor using a voltmeter. I don't have mine here right now to tell you what it should be for sure, but you should have some kind of voltage at least over 3 volts.

Update
My friend seridium finally go the call from the lhs that his heli is now working. Apperently there is still an issue initailizing sometimes, but it works..........
LMAO- in a sad way.
Before I could finish typing this updated reply for seridium, he arrived with his heli, plugged it in and things went crazy. The heli servo's were twitching (a bad sign even to my limited experience) and then it started up without imput. Lucky I was around to pull the plug while he held it, he escaped with only minor cuts.
This happend in the company office by the way. LOL
Well, its time to send it back to heli max and let them deal with it. They said to send it in and they will look at it. Of coarse they said they have to test it to see if the broken parts are their fault, but considering the heli is using a BRAND NEW E BAORD they sent, I can't see it being a problem.
Thanks to all who offered advise. Hopefully seridium will fly again someday.

I just put a GY240 in my AXE. The install was a simple one. I am using the stock 3 in 1 board and the 240. I pulled the orange wire from slot 4 of the Rx. I mounted the 240 onto at the rear of the frame. I plugged the 240 into slot 4 of the Rx. I then plugged the orange wire from the 3 in 1 into the white wire on the female lead of the 240.
First flight was not good. I broke the tail rotor. I replace it and then turned gain down. I started at 75%. I turned it down to 50%. Still no love. All over the place. I remembered that you need to turn the gain on the 3 in 1 down. I did that and then it would just spin. I flipped the REV switch and all was close. I turned the gain on the 240 down to just under 25% and there is just a tiny bit of wag.
Seems to drift nose right at about 45 degrees in a couple of minutes. That is close enough. I also put on the bell hiller mod. They work pretty well together.
I flew out a battery just flying side into the wind. Seemed to hold well, did not get blown around like it was with rate mod gyro it comes with.

Ok I got a brand new heli from HEli max after I sent the old one in all broken, So i test flew it factory setting worked fine.
So I went ahead and installed my new ESC , GY240 and I must say I am super fed up already the tail will initialize just fine but my heli will spin RIGHT and not LEFT like the way it is supposed to turn, it is like it is reveresed no matter what setting the gyro is on anyone else had this problem no wires are reveresed the setup I used was from heli max's offcial PDF file installed like a pro I can show pics if needed.
Im dumbfounded with this dilema I have here....
I must say as soon as this heli works im never gonna fly it again this thing is abigger pain in the ass then my job, ole lady, trucks, pets, combined@!!@ F&%C im FRUSTRATED.

Don't give up on it quite yet. Three things to check: the direction switch on the gyro, the mode switch on the gyro, and the wiring from the ESC to the battery.
If I had a dollar for every time I thought I'd checked something obvious but wound up overlooking it...I'd have a new T-rex.

Well I fixed the problem and guess what the problem was?
Well I said I flied it right out the box, everything worked as is supposed to no problems.
Installed 12AMP ESC soldered the wires Blue to negative and white to positive on the deans connector for the tail motor after that connected the power leads from the 12 amp to the 3-1's power supply used a deans connector all wired good to go.
Then I went ahead and installed my GY240 as the instructions instructed.
The heli would spin Right if I went left on the RUD stick, I checked all connections everything hooked up fine the motor beeps when the esc initializes the GY240 initializes just fine so I flicked the REV back to off, thinking it would solve the problem but to no avail, I then reversed the RUD on the Controller nope still didn't work.
So I looked at the tail motor positive was hooked to positive neg to negative, Suretocrash thought I should change the wires on the tail motor as he had to do that with his Blade CP to make his HHGyro work.
So after reversing the wires on the tail, my Axe-CP flies minty as ever, I don't even have to use the rudder to hover anymore, but why did it fly fine right out of the box? anyone else come across this problem?

I've got a Eflite G90 HH gyro running through the 3in1 controlling the direct drive tail motor. The tail has a 3x3 prop cut down to 2.5x3 and the tail motor still gets hot. The 3in1 has the middle and bottom screw set to midway. If the G90 has the gain set to about 50%, the tail wags and the tail motor pulses. If the gain is set too low (about 30%) the heli needs lots of right nose trim to get it to hover. Still experimenting with settings.
The glitches are back (thinking it could be my neighbor is using his ham radio) so the fly bar twisted during a glitch. When I staightened it out, the Axe had a bad vibration. However, I was getting closer on the gyro settings on the G90. It pulsed, but could have been from the vibration and not wag/gain and didn't need lots of nose right trim. Its working, but its not any better than stock, so far.
I have a brushless main motor coming with an ESC. Can I use a pixie 20 amp brushed esc to control the tail motor with the G90 and scrap the 3in1?

I am sure you could use the 20 amp. or 25 amp ESC.
Sounds like you might need to upgrade your receiver and scrap the 3-1.

Progress this evening. Going back to the gear drive tail, I thought I'd go back to stock and start over. Wondering how others got their HH gyro to work through the 3in1, I decided the only thing they did was to add the gyro and NOT mess with the 3in1. So, once I got the stock setup to work, I backed off the stock gyro to eliminate all wag. Then, I plugged the G90 into channel 4 and plugged the orange wire into the G90. It worked like a charm. Held the nose on one heading for over 5 minutes. Hard collective climbs didn't cause it to go off heading, in the basement anyway. I'll try it outside when I get a chance.
Brushless motor arrived today.
Kaptain Chaos, you don't think 20 or 25 for the TAIL is too big? Will it still work?
Glitching might have been caused by the G90 connection being pulled off from the servo connection slightly. Pushed them all back on securely and didn't have another glitch
