RE: axe cp thread
ORIGINAL: r/cheliman Would like to updrade to the DX6 in the future because right now I don't have any money. (Only in high school, no job yet.) How far back did the upgrade put you all in all. Well, I got the DX6 box set like-new, second hand for $150. That came with 4 servos and AR6000 rcvr and I used them to get my Multiplex Minimag up and running with DX6. To get the Axe upgraded, I just removed the stock receiver (and pesky antenna) and installed another AR6000 for $50. ~m |

ORIGINAL: kjelld168804 I just wanted to put my two cents in, Those who are looking to buy an AXE CP, don't be discouraged by having to tamper with the gyro and servos and other stuff that people have been talking about. I have made no adjustments to my AXE CP. Put a Thunder Power 1320mah in it and still no adjustments! [link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCfOMQLqN4Y[/link] This is the room where I learned. A bit tight but made me better faster. Glad that everything was balanced right from the factory!!! Thanks! This was very useful - I could tell by the sound - I pretty sure I have my pitch and throttle curves set correctly. I could just barely tell from the video that my rotor speed is close to yours, but the sound is right on. And my 2 cents - don't fly in there! You need more space, really! [8D] |
RE: axe cp thread
Markind,
I posted this once before about batteries, I used a 11.1v 1800mah 8 or 9C continuous and 12C max burst li po in my friend's Axe cp and on a timed hovering practice session it achieved 30 minutes on 1 charge. It's an off-name brand battery that I got off Ebay for $30. As far as it's weight goes, holding it in hand it doesn't seem to weigh anymore than the stock Ni-cad, if anything it might weigh a tick less than the stock batt. The motor didn't get any hotter than what it did with the stock Ni Cad and the circuitboards stayed nice and cool. We've put about 4 flights on that pack so far and have made lots of progress with hovering. I felt so confident I did several 360 pirouettes mid-hover in his garage. I like my friend's AXE CP so much that I just bought a TREX 450XL CDE:D The Axe's unibody frame shares a close resemblence to the TREX's and makes me wonder what an AxE cp with a brushless motor, (3) HS-55 servos and a Telebee HH locking gyro would be like! Along with smoothened ball-ended linkages throughout... smooooth! I think someone on RCU has one like this, FrankenAxe? Has anyone cross-referenced other heli's to see if their blades will fit the Axe? |
RE: axe cp thread
WEREW what is the name of the battery. If you could find out could you please post it.

RE: axe cp thread
I ordered mine from tower with the lipoly battery. Am I going to have to modiy anything plug wise on the heli to adapt it to the lipoly battery? If so what am I going to need and can I get it at radio shack? Heli was supposed to be here today but because of the bad weather around the country it won't be here till monday now. BUMMER

RE: axe cp thread
They should have told you that you need an adapter from the mini deans to micro deans connector IF you purchased the Electrifly lipo. If not, You'll have to come up with your own adapter most likely.

RE: axe cp thread
r/cheliman,
The name of the Li Po is HiModel. Here's some links to some of their batteries: [link=http://www.himodel.com/electric/HiModel_1800mAh_11.1V_10C_EP_Series_Li-poly_Battery_Pack_w_Balancer.php]10c[/link] [link=http://www.himodel.com/electric/HiModel_1700mAh_11.1V_12C_Li-poly_Battery_Pack_w_Balancer.php]12C[/link] I couldn't find the 8C 1800mah li po that I have on their site, but that site gives battery weights so you could get one that's not gonna act like a brick with your Axe CP. I found mine on Ebay and I think there's some on there now... pretty good prices too! Go big on mah specs, keep the weight same as or less than the stock Ni-Cad and look at the electrifly's battery's C-rating, dont get a battery with too high of a C-rating(discharge rate). I think you're safe with a 15C, I bought mine (8C, 1800mah, 11.1v) originally for my MiniFuntana and thought i'd give it a try and i'm glad i did! I expect mine to last 20-25 minutes with each charge. I also charge mine kind of slow, .25-.35amp charge rate. |
RE: axe cp thread
Hi Guys,
I got my Axe CP a few weeks ago and now I have a problem. When I am flying the heli is blipping forward and losing power. It is not a big loss of power but you can tell in the hover it drops a half a foot. The tail sometimes suddenly pulls one direction during a hover and no matter what control input it still spins out. This is not pilot error because I had a friend fly mine and he said it was doing the same thing. I have runned up the motor in my hand (Even though I'm not supposed to) and the blades track staright and there are no servos jittering. Also did a range check and that is fine. I think the esc or gyro is fried. What do you all think? |
RE: axe cp thread
Mark!! (ind)
You had the 2200mAh battery just straped under the heli, or were you using it to power the heli? I want to use a battery about that size. If you had your regular 1320 powering the heli and the 2200 just as dead weight, I will be VERY impressed! Thanks, Nick |
RE: axe cp thread
Frankie check your motor connections. Make sure that the connectors are soldered correctly. A bad connection could cause all the things you stated. Interference, power fluctuations, and the T/R yawing.
|
RE: axe cp thread
WEREW what kind of connector is on the battery. If it is different than the stock is the adapter on the HIMADELS site? I'm looking towards the lipos but don't want to spend a lot of money. Those batteries are a lot cheaper than GREAT PLANES so thanks for the link.
|
RE: axe cp thread
Frankie, like Heliko said chech the solder job, and if you can't find the problem call up Heli-Max. I had a problem with an earlier heli and they helped me trouble shoot it and they will also take it back and fix it or send you a new one. The down side is you won't be able to fly.

RE: axe cp thread
Just found this video clip. If you think your an experienced heli pilot this might make you think twice.

I checked out the batteries - I am interested but my budget is frozen for a while, and I already have 3 of the TP 1320's and a helluva 2200 mAh brick from a F27C (Parkzone green pack). That's great you got the power solution nailed down - and great numbers - it must mean your setup is the sweet spot! :D ORIGINAL: werew I like my friend's AXE CP so much that I just bought a TREX 450XL CDE:D The Axe's unibody frame shares a close resemblence to the TREX's and makes me wonder what an AxE cp with a brushless motor, (3) HS-55 servos and a Telebee HH locking gyro would be like! I am considering not only a gyro (either gy401 or Telebee) but I am also considering active Flight Stabilization: http://www.fmadirect.com/detail.htm?...770§ion=29 which would be like "Cheating". I would get it NOW but its not compatible with DX6 (yet - they will come up with one soon). For a mere $150, you could hover your Axe or TREX 'hands-off' even in wind! Chomp on that one for a moment!! ~mArK [/quote] |

The normal battery tray was empty, and the pack's wire prevents the canopy from going on. So, no canopy plus the aircraft is sluggish and obviously overloaded. The increase in juice does not quite make up for it. Certainly, you would get more bang for the buck and weight with those economy 1500's. Meanwhile, I'll make another run with just 3 of the TP 1320's and see how it goes :D |
RE: axe cp thread
Cool, do you know the weight of your 2200 pack? I have been looking at tons of different batteries, and the weights, even with lipos, seems to vary quite a bit. The battery I have been looking at is .9 ounces heavier than stock. Quite a bit when talking about a heli that weighs 16 ounces. Does anyone know how much the training gear weighs? I know it can't be much, but if it's around .5 ounces or so the difference is minor, but if counter weight is needed then it will still be a problem. I just really want a 30 minute flight time. It gives me an opportunity to break more parts, since with helis thats the name of the game. Not really but it seems to be what I really am good at.
Flew an axe EZ today, I felt like a pro just from the 10 charges on the stock battery from the CP. People were saying " you're pretty good!" I was thinking "Yeah, you haven't seen me 'attempt' to fly the CP." Totally different ball game to say the least. It does give the basic control feel though, just hovers and flies SOOO much easier. I really want a few 2100 mAh batteries, but its starting to look like 4 or 5 1320's are in my future. Why are these helis so d@%n addictive??? This is definitely my 'new' money pit. |
RE: axe cp thread
does anyone know how long it takes to charge the electrifly 11.1v lipo with the electrifly charger thats recomended in the book.
also, it was fun getting thos blade grip screws out. the right size screw drivers and vice grip pliers connected to them worked great for me:) other than that everything els went together great. cant wait to get back in the air |
RE: axe cp thread
Is this the Lip Battery you guys are talking about?

RE: axe cp thread
Hey Guys,
I just got my Axe about 3 weeks ago, and today was the first time I've had time and decent weather together. I'd been scooting around the garage before with it, try to compare it to the blade CP I've been 'flying' for the last 2 yrs. Anyways, got comfy with it today, and let it get ahead of me. Let me say this thing can take abuse that would've put my Blade in the trash. It nosed in from about 20', and other than a broken blade and a scratch, she's fine and back in the air. Speaking of broken blades and spare parts, I didn't have spare axe blades, but I had a pr. of Blade CP flat bottoms, they worked great, just a little snug in the grips. Very stable and excellent performance. I've also cannibalized the LiPo (1320) from my blade, changed the connector on the axe to match it so I can swap the battery back and forth. I have a feeling my Blade will slowly become a parts source or a hanger queen. I've gotta say, it's a great chopper for the money, and seems to be very durable, especially in the landing gear and frame, areas that were weak on the blade. The only other thing I did was ditch the foam balls (they tend to snag and slow it down) and used the 'ping-pong' balls from the Blade. happy flying guys. |
RE: axe cp thread
Heya everyone.
Just ordered my axe cp this week from Tower Hobbies. They're out of stock until about mid march. So while I'm waiting I got out the old Dave Brown RCFS2001 simulator with the old brown box controller that came with his first sim. I got bored with the standard to helo's offered and started searching the web. I found a sim called FMS, and it's free. Downloaded and installed it today. I've been playing around with different helo's and scenerys all day. I found a little electric helo for FMS called the T REX. I've been playing with it most of the day. Can anyone with FMS and the Axe CP tell me if the T REX flies anything like the Axe CP? Is there another electic helo for FMS that duplicates the characteristics of the Axe CP more closely? I just dropped 200 bucks on the helo, and can't afford to drop another 200 on realflight just yet, though I did play around with it at the LHS the other day and was very impressed. It also looks like I'll be able to hook up the Axe CP controller to the computer through FMS; anyone done this yet? I've been reading though this post quite a bit and can't wait for the Axe CP to show up on the doorstep. Happy flying all! |
RE: axe cp thread
SchoooBaka- Ive tried my stock axe radio with other sims and it didn't work. I do have real flight and is the best thing I ever bought. It is the reason I have the axe. I couldn't have tought my self with out it, I highly recomend you find a way to buy real flight g3, maby charge it or something :D it has saved me alot of $$$$$$$$$. I think alot of people give up, or get vary frustrated with flying helis cause they rush and crash alot. sim helped me greatly, hovered through second charge thanks to real flight. If you buy it, you can upgrade it online to g3.5 and it has the axe cp on it. I hope every thing works for you and good luck. take your time or parts will end up costing you more than the sim would have;)

RE: axe cp thread
By the way, is it just me. Do drugs get you this hooked???? Im lovin this heli:D

RE: axe cp thread
I ordered a CP today from Tower, but looks like they are out of them at the moment.[&o]
I haven't looked through the entire thread, but maybe someone can give me a quick run down. What are the known issues out of the box with this heli? |
RE: axe cp thread
Tex, I would have to say blade grips and the stock battery. I havent broken the main blades, just the tail blades. I have read that lots of people break them, so a spare set may come in handy. My LHS has some in stock waiting for me as soon as I do.

RE: axe cp thread
I agree with you on the sim saving money. Years ago I bought a used shuttle xx .30. Played with it for a couple weeks working on the hover. Then I was in the computer store and saw an RC Aerochopper for my atari 1040st. I had basic wireframe graphics and did'nt simulate ground effects very well, but worked well for hand eye coordination and I'm sure saved me alot of money. It cost me 200 dollars in 1990. Then In 1998 I bought the dave brown rcfs simulator; a little better graphics, but the rc interface looks like something you'de get from heathkit in the 60's. Again it cost me 200 dollars.
200 bucks seems to be the going rate for computer sims, lol. Anyways, I do plan on getting realflight as soon as I can pull it off. For now FMS will have to do. Sheesh, don't mean to sound so old, lol. Trying to decide now if the shuttle xx might be worth digging out of storage and fixing up. I bought the axe so I'd have something to play with around the house as well as out in the field. I must say that finding the axe cp at such an affordable price has resparked my interest in the hobby; looking for somewhere to put the computer so I can use my big ol desk to build my planes and helo's on. [8D] BTW, does the axe cp in realflight handle similar to the real thing as far as power and maneuverability; and does realflight simulate ground effects very well? |
