Ha, maybe.

It's a custom set-up I came up with using Blade CPP parts. I posted a how-to thread [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6214975/anchors_6214975/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#6214975]here[/link].


OK, on the main gear mod the gear will mount directly on the mainshaft, but that's where compatabilty ends.

-The mainshaft has to be flipped so the flat spot doesn't interfere with the one-way bearing.

-A new hole has to be drilled in the flipped mainshaft so the head can bolt on.

-One of the mainshaft spacers has to be sanded down so that the main gear will fit without cutting the frame.

-The one-way bearing has to be pressed out and reinstalled on the other side of the gear again to gain clearance between it and the frame.

I also added a shim between the top of the one-way bearing and lower shaft collar to reduce friction.

Is that a very expensive Futaba gyro sitting ON TOP of the tail boom block asking to get torn off by the random flybar paddle strike??? [X(]

No Jinx, just a word of caution. I have read many a horror story on other heli forums about people losing their gyros due to a paddle blade strike. Hell, I once had a pretty rough landing with my TRex and had a boomstrike, lost one of my main blades and seriously tweaked the flybar rod. Upon closer inspection I saw that the casing on the tail control servo was cracked!!! If my gyro had been on top gues what would have taken the blow?

ATB thanks for the word of caution, but I'm not really too worried about the gyro. I haven't had any problems with it mounted there. Besides my ESC's take up the space in the frame so that's the only place I can mount it.

Devens the gyro can also be mounted in the frame where my ESC's now inhabit. I think that's what ATB had in mind.

Dang,

Still no parts. Tower estimated delivery between 8/17 - 8/21. Thought maybe I'd get lucky and have them for the weekend. Between my last crash and the follow-up power problem, I've been grounded for 2 weeks now. [sm=cry_smile.gif]

I think I'll take it up on the roof and throw it off to see if I can get enough lift to make a gradual landing and do some hover practice on the way down. [sm=tongue_smile.gif]

Hi guys (gals too I'm sure)

I have a problem, I'm sure it's been on here before, but I'm too lazy to search 75 pages of posts for the answer.
Here's the problem. I had a fairly minor crash tonight. broke one of the blade grips (nothing new here). I reassembled everything and went back out to check my handywork. motor spooled up normally but wouldn't take off. Cyclic worked fine, could see rotor disc move with the inputs, powered down and tried again. This time it took off at half throttle...so far so good, gets about 2-3 feet in the air, seems to be hovering fine, then all of a sudden drops like a stone, hits the ground, then bounces back up, does this twice more before I can get the power off. I shut it down, replaced another broken blade grip, and tried again, same trouble...any ideas??? I've been flying for about 8 months on the axe, and over a year before that with a blade, never seen anything like it.

what may be happening to you is that you mistakenly put the blades on backwards. The liftoff then drop may be caused by getting a small amount of lift from the blades and then when you increase the power the pitch increases and stalls the blades (or they slow down to much from the increased drag from the increased pitch). This happened to me the other day and to many others who post fourms here. Check that if the blades are in line with the helicopter, and your looking at the helicopter from the left side that the one over the canopy has the leading edge ( thick edge) pointing up and that the one of the tail boom is facing down. If not that is your problem.

Hey guys, I need some help!!!, I fried my 3in1 last week ( due to dean connector, soldered on the wrong side ), got the replacement and installed, adjusted gain controls to 12 o'clock appx. now upon lift off there is a glitching problem, when I throttle up the Axe it goes up and then feels like it looses power and then powers back up, is there something else that may have been fried and could some please point out where the jst plugs, plug back into the receiver, I'm not sure if I have it mixed up and there are no proper pics in the instructions.

DANGED AXE ELECTRONICS!!! [:@] Everytime I log on someone has posted about some kind of electronics failure on the Axe!! Cheap China Chup!! I know for a fact that the danged e-board only costs the factory a buck or two to make, and they sell it for $75. Rat-batsards!!

Well now I can finally cleanse my Axe of all the stock electronics!

I've been lurking lately, but now I got parts!! My Axe has been a hangar queen for almost a month now...

But now I got parts, so its off with the stock Axe tail motor - GOOD RIDDANCE!! I will install my CC 9A ESC and the Ammo 3850, but I will keep it geared for its first tests. I'll mess with Direct Drive later... I just want smooth basic flight!!!

Data and pics coming soon. Now I'm off to solder all these wires, and get them through the tail boom somehow...

Hopefully, I will re-Maiden soon, and then I can contemplate the Bell-Hiller Mod...

why couldn't a guy take his spare tail from the MX 400 and get it to work on the CP? someone has done the gear mod, which will give you power to it, all you'd have to do is fit and size a boom long enough tto take the belt.. right?

That's probably what they did. But, there's alot of cutting on the frame to get that drive gear above the main gear. (weakens the frame) Then belt guides have to be mounted to guide the belt into the tailboom. Tailboom has to be larger diameter to accomodate the belt and long enough to take up the slack.

The first tail boom strike with the main blade will really mess things up. Its gotta be straight.

my first cp was a great bird, I sold it to a buddy. The 2nd unit I bought was a good heli until I bounced it on the ground landing it. the 3-1 board died.

I have prurchased 6 more of them since, 4 have went back to hobby services for repair, I sold them when they were returned to me. 2 are under the desk because I am debateing on sinking more money into to them (spereration project)

AND I do not have a CP that will run.

Son of Franken Axe hovered last night!! First time with BL main and tail!

The tail was super washy so I upped the Gy240 Gain from 30 to 60. Much better! She was able to hover smooth as glass. Control seemed ok, but my space was limited in the clubhouse. She was very easy to hover with just a couple clicks of trim here and there. Smooth running!! That roughness of the brushed motors is happily gone!

My headspeed was way to high at first, so I went all the way down on Hover Throttle Trim and all the way up on Hover Pitch Trim and she was still just a bit fast, I think. But nice!

The Ammo 3850 on the tail stayed under 140 deg F. The whole time. Acceptable!! Later, I'll add a bit more heat sink and it should be fine.

Unfortunately, even with the e-Flight heat sink properly installed, the Park 370 got up to 180 deg. F and that's a bit high. The good news is if I tweak the main Normal Mode Pitch and Throttle Curves, I can reduce the heat a bit. We'll see... I also might be able to slide the heat sink all the way up, then cut another heatsink to cover the motor's remaining area.

Excellent progress anyway! This has been a fun project! The Axe runs much smoother and the LiPo pack seemed cooler. After the test it was only 104 deg. F.

Once I get the hover nailed down with the stick at about 65% up I can get a good headspeed measurement with my tach and a good current / watts / temp profile of the power train.

btw as expected the CC9A tail ESC and the 20A main ESC were just barely warm to the touch. They have easy jobs, which is what I wanted. Less heat is more efficiency. Less heat on the ESC should translate to less heat on the LiPo.

Markind glad to hear you got her up and running. The motor temps concern me though. I'm curious what was the ambient temp at the clubhouse when you flew?

I've read that 180º is the point where the motor starts to break down so be careful. The other thing is the tail motor. My tail ran at 98º with the geared tail and about 130º with DD so your tail is a bit on the hot side as well.

UPS brought me my new helicopter today. Hobbico replaced my old one with a new one. Pretty good C S for me. Now, I just have to check eveything over and do a little installation work and then I can go fly tomorrow.
Ordered a flight sim from TH so went that gets in I can practice indoors while batts charge. :D:D:D
