Default XRB Modifications

Does anyone know if I can modify my XRB Shuttle? Motor upgrades? I currently have carbon fiber blades on them. I saw a website with replacement bodies for the (www.mmanrow.com). Are there anymore?

Very Nice! I like what you did with paint and the canopy. I just purchased mine about 30-something hours ago.

I don't have an answer to your question, but I hope you can answer one of mine. The blades seem to be held very loosly and they swivle easily. Was yours this way too? Should there be at least some friction? Does this affect stability?

Thanks in advance...good look finding your upgrades.

There are not really any upgrades from Hirobo for the XRB.

The foam blades should be able swivel in the grips. IF too tight an oscillation will occur.

Greetings WC! Happy New Year.

There are slim-pickin's on upgrade/mod info for the XRBs. Search and dig through the forums you may find something related. I will try to find links that I once visited that had battery info. I was considering the same things since the addition Hirobo batteries are pricey. Hirobo seems to almost exclusively use the connector they use, but I know it is not a proprietary type. I just ended up giving up the search because of the fear for damaging the lipo's, the charger or the heli electronics. Too me the cost of replacemnet keeps me cautious.

In any case good luck and i will post the links as soon as I find them.

Cheers!

The following is a link to someone who already makes and sells the adapter like what you are looking for. I have no affiliation with the site and I myself have not purchased from there. I have seen however many posting of other XRB owners who have.

http://www.rickyblazerc.com/

I highly recommend you reading/skimming through all the Hirobo XRB related threads in RCU and RCGroups. There is a lot of good information out there that will answer most of the questions you will have while you are becoming familiar with your heli.

Search the forms! I know it is easier to just post and wait for answers, but there is a lot of great information already out there and you will find what you are looking for faster than waiting for a reply to a post.

Cheers and Happy Flying!

Greetings nong1965!

either choice is good. They are both identical underneath. It becomse a matter of style preference. I have the XRB shuttle, but sometimes I think I would have liked the Lama more. It's too late now.

In any case they wont disappoint. Hirobo has an excellent rep for quality and stability. One thing to consider though is if any of your local hobby shop carries parts. It helps get back in the air faster and price differnece is not always that far off.

Lastly, there are some but not many upgrade/mods for this heli. It doesn't really need it but if you like to tinker or personalize, this wont be the best choice unless it is like external cosmetic to stock parts.

Also one to consider that is a recent or soon to be added member of this family of little heli's is Hirobos SRB Quark. Check out the following Vids:

http://model.hirobo.co.jp/03-img/0302-SRB/P1010408.wmv
http://model.hirobo.co.jp/03-img/0302-SRB/P1010405.wmv

There is more info here: http://model.hirobo.co.jp/products/0302-901/index.htm

Good luck.

Ps. You may also want to look at the Blade CX2...it is also very popular...I have seen them fly, but I have never flown it myself.

Dear delvallejr
Thanks for your info. I have decided to go with XRB lama due to the look of it. One day, Once I can fly this one, Perhaps I can consider the Quark.
CX 2:I had one and did not like it. I won't consider cx2 a good quality heli,

Thanks

Thanks for the info on the CX2. I'm going to stop including it in my comments.

Was the build quality the problem or did it not fly like you were expecting? What is your experience with it? I ask because I have been considering it as a third heli...all the LHS have parts for it and only one supports the XRB. I would appreciate your comments.

Happy flying.

Dear delvallejr ,
1. The build was not worth the price
2. Flying: Hovering is alright but not senstive enough in term of maneuver. It was kind of boring. (if you have 3.5 g sim, try esky heli and you will see what I meant).
The only reason I bought CX 2 due to parts are avail at my LHS. In addition, a battery was held by rubber band which is hard to put in and out.
Skill: I am a new flyer but have put lots of time on sim, I can hover all the helis in the sim.
I asked my friend who is very skillful heli flyer. He recommends Hirobo and ask me to stop buying those cheap helis. It is his comment.
Hope this help,
nong
Quesiton; I the future, I am looking for a good outdoor heli, any recomendation?

dear delvallejr
correction:
CX 2: Batter held in a tiny battery compartment underneath the heli with velcro at one end. It is still hard to put in and out
CP+: battery held in two rubber bands
I did not tell you that I also have CP+ and still cannot hovering it. It won't hover still at all. I can't get it off ground.

You should cut more off around the battery insert on the tail to make it easy to insert the battery or change to a broom tail.
You do not need teh velcro on the battery too.

If CX2 is kind of boring, XRB is boring too as it is very stable. SRB is your choice.

Dear flyblades
Thanks for your comment. I read many reviews mentioning that XRB is stable but better maneuver. It is kind of too late now since shipment is underway. I hope XRB is as good as people said.

Yes I will.

RE: I have CP+ and find it is very hard to hover the heli still on the same spot. any advice? Or I am not ready for colletive pitch yet?
In sim, I could hover all heli in 3.5 G and could fly them somewhat alright. Is it easier to fly them in sim? I even add wind in sim and still at least having problem hoerving them. at least I can control those helis.
Thanks

CP+ is very hard to hover. The recommendation I got is "Go for a 400 size heli". You are very good on the SIM. I can not fly a colletive pitch on 3.5G yet. I am thinking of geting a SRB for indoor.....

Dear
Thanks. I think I am going to sell CP+ and look for a good out door collective pitch heli instead.
Note: I will wait for XRB and if I like it, I might want to stick with Hirobo brand.
Thanks

Yes, you should sell the CX2 and the CP+. Keep the XRB or SRB for indoor and get a bigger one for outdoor, plus you have a SIM. They will keep you very busy and fun.

Dear Nong1965:

Congrats are your purchase...you wont be dissappointed...

Note that you will have two flybar weights in the kit. The ones that are installed are the heavier ones and will keep the heli a little slower with response. I recommend you leave those on for the first couple of flights. Then switch to the lighter ones. It makes it allot more sensitive to input and reacts a lot faster. This is how I have been using mine and I like it allot.

One thing I have learned over the last 5 months in this hobby is that even a cheap heli can fly pretty good when you find the sweet spot on all the mechanical setup. focus on the mechanical configuration first, then radio triming for finest tuning.

The other helis I have flown are the AXE CP (one stock and one with upgraded servos) and the Honey Bee King 2. I learned a great deal about RC helicopters from both of these and doing research about them. And like I said above, even a cheap heli can be pretty good, if set up well. Some minimal modifications and upgrades can make it easier to achieve a seemingly more stable machine, but just throwing money at it without understanding what it is supposed to do wont help. As you mentioned in one of your previous posts, there is a huge following for the HBK2, and I am one of them. There are those that have spent well over $200.00 on top of the cost of the heli to get it to fly where they are happy with theirs. I am still under that including the cost of the little bird. The only mod that really made difference was a $2.00 bearing for the belt guide. The other few things I have done a mostly bling and for longevity. I still use the stock rate gyro and the tail holds for up to around 10 seconds before a minor correction is needed.

I have a couple of friends who fly T-REXs and Thunder Tigers (450 size and up) with expensive radio gear and the legendary Futaba 401 gyro and they both have been very impressed with the stability I get out of my King 2. I even purchased my first AXE CP from one of them. He was also surprised that I was able to get his AXE CP to be a little bit more stable then when he had it.

What is the point of my previous comments? Well it’s not just to toot my own horn, but rather to emphasize that Ready-to-Fly only means that you have everything in one box to get you going. You can’t trust the setup from the factory. Even those loyal to the Walkera brand, for example, acknowledge the cheap quality but they claim if you tare them down and put them back together they actually fly pretty well. Also, even the most expensive, most stable machines can be difficult to fly if not setup properly.

I have enjoyed setting up and tweaking my models as much as I have had flying them, and in this hobby that almost seems to be a requirement.

One last word of wisdom, since you have already had experience with several different models, one of the first things I remember reading when I started getting into this hobby was that unlike any of the other RC hobbies, you have to want to fly helis. The desire to fly them is the only thing that will get you through the anger and frustration that is certain to come when enduring the large learning curve.

Thank you for reading my post and Sorry for my long-windedness.

I don’t consider myself an expert flyer, but I do consider myself to be a pretty good builder and tweaker. If you haven’t guessed already, I would be happy to answer any questions you might have. Feel free to PM me

Cheers! And happy flying.

Dear delvallejr
Thanks for the details of my incoming XRB and other mods experience.
I am not a handy guy like most heli flyer. when I told that to my lhs, they told me that I am getting myself to a wrong hobby. Perhaps they are right.
anyway, I will wait for my xrb and will give you comment and perhaps questions.
Thanks and appreciate your offer.

Nong,

I am not a handy guy. I did not feel comfortable to take the heli apart. I did not feel comfortable to cut the battery insert opening on the heli before I did it. After I did it once, second time is easy. My LHS sales is very helpful. After I broke a part, I went to LHS to buy the replacement. The sales always tell me how to install it if I ask for help. I saw the sales help the customer to install part and adjust the plane or heli everytime. They did test fly too.

As XRB, the only thing will break is the blade. Just do not drop it over 6 feet!!!.

Dear flyblades,
That is good news since I can replace those blades.
As I had mentioned earlier that my lhs does not carry anything but E-flite. So I will have to count on the manual basiclly.
I will advise upon test fly XRB.
thanks
