RE: new sav 4.6
Im on my second 4.6, the first one I broke in using the method in the instructions, the one Im running now I broke in using the heat cycle method and I must say that this new engine runs much stronger than the first one did, but I guess too that the first one could have been a lemon possibly.
It would be a cool to take two of the same mills and break one using one method and the other using the opposite and dyno them to see what one comes out on top.

RE: new sav 4.6
I guess it's all down to preference, and what people are comfortable with.
I have one of the very first 4.6's that was broken in the HPI way, it runs very well with lots of power, i've since bought another two 4.6's, these were heat cycled, and again they perform very well, but i have to say the two that were heat cycled, have quite a bit more compression than the first one ever had?
I also have a .25 that was heat cycled, it really is fast for a .25, again with lots of compression, so for me the heat cycle method is superior.
I just don't like the idea of running a couple of tanks at idle, when more often than not the temps are too low.
Just my opinion anyway

I am going to be getting a new 4.6ss with an O.S. .30 VG, and just wondering what the !QUOT!heat cycle!QUOT! is when breaking in a new engine. I have always followed the directions when breaking in a engine, and some of the engines turned into a POS! Please supply details as to how you would break in a motor with the !QUOT!heat cycle.!QUOT! Happy Holidays!!

just write in "heat cycle" or "Engine break in" in the search and you will get lots of threads on this, good stuff you may want to read up on.
Id post a link but dont have it in my favorites anymore.

Here is a couple of the many threads in this section of the site. Check it out and do a little searching of your own, it will make you very familiar with the workings of your truck.

There's even an article on it in the magazine - just go to "magazine" at the top of this page, and click on How-to's, and the engine-break-in should be there somewhere, it outlines the method pretty well.
