Check this thread. It gives a lot of info on tuneability, power, etc. on 10 popular engines.

If you want a power-house for under $150, go with the STS .28 from racernine.com, last I seen they were going for $130-ish. I have a Wasp .28 and it can be a pain to tune to say the least. The needles are real touchy and idle can be up and down (motor sealed). If you get it in a descent tune it's a monster, but getting it there, and keeping it there, is the key.

There are FAR better engine choices out there for $150, here is some quick reading on how much of a TERD the Wasp .28 is:

For the price I paid I think it was a steal. the guy didn't even put 4 tanks into it. he had a hard time setting it. i would have kicked myself if I purchased it at full price. paid $40. It was a b%$$h to set. In the end its paid off (bout 5 hours of adjsuttments). so far, have over 2 gal and she's still running strong. I use 20% Odonnel or byrons only and med plug. I believe its built for top end. I use 15 clutch with 52 spur no wheelies just massive top end. police confirmed at 38mph with the gear ratio. Could be faster with bigger gears. save the hassle get something else. For those that do decide to get it, make sure to seal the carb or else.

You also have an STS .28 with 15/52 gearing and it won't pull wheelies????? You need to further tune that engine. You havan't even begun to tap the power of that engine, or you have a serious issue internally (maybe that's why you got it for $40)

15/52 gearing? That's made for toque not top end. With that gear combo, you should be flipping over eveytime you hit the throttle.

If you want top end try 18/47 or 19/47.

Seems like you have too much bottom end, try using 47T spur and a bigger CB like 18T or 19T.

the motors actually a wasp 28. It will probably pull wheelies if I lean it out. but the way i've got it set up. mild torque but great top. i'm content with the way it is. Its tuned for going up hills, jumps and dirt. Its definately worth $40 if indeed it had internal probs. she'll wip any revo on top speed thats for sure...

A Wasp .28 will NOT "rip a Revo on top speed". The Wasp .28 is a very poor performing engine compared to others out there (I owned one for about a year). Maybe you are a lucky one, but 90% ot the feedback I get is totally negitive about the Wasp .28
