Default Stupid Question...

I have a stupid question [&o]

I was wondering what type of lube (if any) goes in the gear box.

There is a rubber cap covering 2 holes and yet the instructions say nothing about it other than where it goes during assembly.

Those are the caps that cover the shift point's adjustment holes. You do not put any lube in side the gear box. If any thing a small dab of gress in three postions on each big gear. That is enough to lube every thing. If you over do it, It will never shift into second or third gear.

Dude,
don't give out false bogus suggestions. You do NOT put ANY type of grease or lube inside a Savage tranny. The Savage tranny uses all sealed bearings that don't need ANY lube. Lubing grease on the gears will only attract dirt, causing accelerated wear. Grease can also hinder the shift cam(s). Those rubber plugs are only dust caps, for the shift piont adjustment holes.
