and here is how the rest of the build went
The FLM TVPs was very smooth installation could not have been more happy only ran into one problem
when I put the engine in the screws mounting the engine to the engine mount wont fit threw the hole, last picture red circles, no big deal just need to get different screws.

I got the picco .28, but I have a picco .27 with 2 1/2 to 3 gal. through it so I'll probably throw it on, put the .28 on the goodies shelf for future project (maybe hellfire but its kinda heavy[sm=confused.gif]any suggestions), I'm still not sure if I like that mid tank the way it is or not, its still to high up.

You mean the bolts are too short or that they physically wont fit into the holes? If they wont fit into the holes smaller bolts arent going to help

I ran across this picture and I thought it would be a good addition to this thread. This is a cross section of a Picco (.28?), but is representative of the average rc nitro big block:

RE: Anyone Own a Savage X?
absolutely. It's tuned out of the box to be very very rich to properly lube the engine during breakin. Do everything you can to keep the idle high enough once you do get it started, even if you have to let it roll around.
When you shut off the engine, roll the engine flywheel to make the piston go to bottom dead center (the bottom of the piston sleeve). This will ensure that it does not cool around the piston at the top - you want to help create good "pinch" at the top.

RE: Anyone Own a Savage X?
hi ashburg, im about to clean my differentials, and put some very thick oils like 100,000wt at the back and 60,000wt at the front for that posi traction feel, is this set up recommendable? and do you have any tips or links that you might guys have to guide me to the rebuilding process? thanks

RE: Anyone Own a Savage X?
you know, for some reason, I've always read to put the thicker weight in the front. I really don't know why, I guess if you think about it, the back needs to be able to spin more freely? anyone have an explanation?
but, personally, heck yeah...I have 50k in front and 30k in back...and I've read where guys put 100k in sure.
Here's a writeup I did before I knew what the heck I was doing LOL...pay no attention to the shims, they're wrong...but the basic rebuild of the differentials is all here: [link=http://ashburg.com/?p=388]how to rebuild a s@vage differential[/link]
Now, once you get all that in place with the diff cups, you need to shim for side to side clearance with the hellfire shims. Here's that info: [link=http://ashburg.com/?p=435]savage differential shims[/link]
good luck, pm me if you need help

Heavier weight in front allows for better on power steering heavier weight in back helps for off power steering.

RE: Anyone Own a Savage X?
You just proved yourself wrong
Chad Bradley on Diffs
Front Differential
Buggy and truggy front (Steering): Depending on how your buggy/truggy is handling, you can alter the amount of steering by altering the weights in the front diff. If you want more steering entering the corner try running lighter oil (3,000wt buggy, 7,000wt truck) This will give the vehicle more off-power steering, which is better on tight tracks.
When I stated heavier fluid in the rear I meant heavier then what was in the front.

Is that savage a little on the rich side or is it just me?
It looked like there was tonnes of smoke.

RE: Anyone Own a Savage X?
Yeah I still got that buggy,
I think I've destroyed it though
It was my first ever nitro RC, I was 10, and I didn't break it in etc. etc.
I used the stock servo's.. seemed to work fine..
