off topic, but...

46u, I learned a little trick from my dad.

Never keep digital or dial calipers in your toolbox. if you have vernier calipers, nobody else knows how to read em so they don't borrow em
Sorry to go off topic again, but what are vernier calipers? can you gys post a link or pic?

To get back on topic again, thank you so much TopSpeedToys for my 0702! I ordered it on Thursday I got it on Saturday! All the while, I thought the exhuast would not get to me until Monday!

Yep that is them and is what I learned to read 40 plus years ago. I still use them daily! Most youngens do not know how to read them.

vernier calipers, read more like a regular ol micrometer than the need-no-experiance-or-knowledge-to-read dial or digital calipers

Mark's shipping is quick, i see stuff from him about 2 or 3 days from when he ships it out...and i'm like 2500 miles away!

Mark is on the west coast and I am on the east coast and I get stuff in about 3 days. He ships Priority Mail in the states. Been breaking in my new STS D21B RBmods today. Have about 2 quarts through it of 20% and will be going to 30% tomorrow.

Thanks for the links and pics of the dial-less calipers!

Anyways, I too am in the process of finally breaking in my D30M. I have the 0702 exhaust on it and it sound so mean even with the settings rich!

I just got through runing about a 10th of a tank (2min worth of fuel) when my batts died on me! So, I busted out the charger, turned the piston to BDC, and am letting it cool before I preheat it again and run again for the next cycle of the heat cycling procedure.

This is the sleeve I modded; I decided not to send it back. I want to see what performance this thing has! I however left al the timing profiles stock; I did not increase any of the timings at all.

Just got mine today I still need to remove the pull start and order a roto-start backplate as well as the STS 702 pipe

You poor S25 has probably seen its better days pass it by based on the pics you posted

Good luck on your break-in, the D30M with 0702 exhuast sounds so mean! Just be sure to diaseble your D30M, inspect it, give it a thorough cleaning, and RTV seal it before your even start it. When I took min apart for cleaning I washed out a ton of shards and machining dust! That was even before I put a dremel to it to begin modding it!

Rich Brake at RBmods said all engine have metal in them new and Novarossi was one of the worse. I agree it is not right and this is one of the reasons factory settings are so rich to flush the metal out.

Just ran another 2min (or thenth of a tank) more on my D30M for break-in. The High speed needle is way rich so I might have to lean another 8th or even 4th turn more! I thing STS set their needles way too rich. But this second run of the heat cycling pocedure pretty much went without a hitch other than stalling more often than I would prefer for break-in. I cant even pulse the trigegr without teh engine stalling!.

I am a half gallon into break in and still running it pig rich. My driveway has oil trails all over it. It is starting to break in though. In the beginning, I had to run it so rich that the truck barely moved. If I ran it any leaner, the temp shot up. Now I can lean it a little and the temps stay at a nice 210 - 230. Like I said, it is still pig rich, but at least I can make my truck go 10 - 15 mph. Tomorrow I plan on running the rest of that gallon through it and then I should be able to start tuning it.

Just ran a 3rd cycle of the heat-cycling procedure. Letting it cool down now after another 2min run. I just noticed that my tank is now down to less than half a tank! This engine is running way too rich so I turned in the high needle another quarter turn. I took the temp and the highest was 157degrees F! Still too cold! I want the engine to run about 170 to 180degrees F; since it was run way too rich for the first 3 cycles, I will lean it to bring it to 170 to 180degrees for the 4th cycle. I am confident that any shards and grinding dust I might have missed are now flushed out of my D30M.

the STS motors come set far too rich...usualy for break in i hve to turn them in almost 2 full turns.... You dont want the motor so rich it 4 strokes.... you need it to be running clean, but still rich.... lugging around overy rich can cause alot of stress ont he engine, if its 4 stroking lean it out..

I have been doing it all by temp. I run it as rich as I have to in order to keep the temp under 250. In the beginning, that was pretty damn rich.

I forgot to add: I had to modify my 0702 exhaust manifold; it was designed for a left side buggy exhasust and the Savge is a right side exhast. I cut a similar edge off the bottom to clear the roto back plate (see the 1st pic). In the 1st pic, the stock notch is now on the upper right side. I had to cut the same notch (not shown; the manifold pipe and roto backplate are in the way).

I then had to drill two additional holes with a jewlers's drill set so I can mount the manifold and use both manifold securing springs.

2 turns in! That is exactly how far I had to turn mine in to get it to run right for break-in! For the first 3 cycles, I had it turned in about 1.5 turns, it was still too rich. I have it probably just a slight tad over 2 turns in on my 4th cycle. I just ran out of fuel for my first tank of break-in on the 4th cycle; it feels like I only ran the Savage for 2min per cycle, but the thrill of heaing this engine run might have made me misjudge the length of time for each cycle. My engine is now conistently hitting 170 to 180 degrees F.

At the end of the 4th cycle, I was pulling the trigger to 3/4 pull for clean outs and I can see my Savage begin to raise the front wheels about to enter a wheelie! And this is only the first tank with 20T/47T gears!

guys you ned to get the motor under some load as quickly as possible.... 3/4 throttle running silly rich is not going to tax the motor... running at 180 degrees is though....breaking a motor in so cold results in a motor that will need to run at 180 degrees to have a good piston seal....but when under normal running the motor sees 240 degrees its going to have no compresion.... ANother thing is a older loose STS 30 breaks in super easy... the new revision 2 motors are completely different.

I broke my STS D21B in like the instructions say but used 20% fuel and after over 4 gallons it still keeps up with engines that cost twice as much. I am breaking in a new D21B RBmods now but doing it just like Rick Brake recommend.

I don't know about you guys, but getting this motor up to temp hasn't been an issue for me, even running it rich.

I put 3 quarts on my STS D21B RBmods in the past 2 afternoons and even after leaning it out a little and moving from 20% to %30 the last quart I do not get much over 210 F.
