Default RE: Ask Maarten DeMoor - Setting Up AFP(D) To The Max

Hi BAS,

I am jumping in here just for a lark!

In the config folder of AeroflyPro, Look for "main.mcf"
Open it using Notepad.

Look for the following lines:

smoke_density 0.80000 and show_smoke 0

I dont know if it is totally necessary but I figured it would be logical to set "show_smoke 1" which means yes.

And just added 15 to the "smoke_density 15.80000"

Save the changes and try it out.

You can always go back in and make corrections.

P.S. You could make a copy of the file and rename it as "main.bak" before you make changes so if you somehow mess up you can then restore the file by renaming the backup to its original name of "mail.mcf"

Maarten,

You are the reason that I bought AFPD also. Your videos are so amazing.... :O. THe physics and graphics are also very very real looking and i cant wait to get it! I started with a 3 channel Thawk and then very quickly got a 4 channel 3d foamy from fancy foam.com the extra 300. I got a brushed 350 GWS motor and D gearbox, but im not sure if this would hover well? I can hover with it ok, but idk if i got enough power? I got a GWS 11x4.7 prop on it, and a Etec 11.1v 3s Lipo i believe. Also, does AFPD actually teach you to fly better and learn new things and be able to do them ona real plane almost identically?

Glad it works fine Bruce,

Matt,

I learned rolling harrier, and most of my 3D flying on aerofly pro. I also learned to fly my IMAC schemes better and straighter, because it's much harder on aerofly pro than in real. In aerofly pro you don't see the ground all the time, so you need to concentrate very good if you want to fly a perfect IMAC scheme.

Whackinski, I love this special trick But I haven't had the time and occasion yet to try it in real. [] (my shocky's prop is broken) But I'll certainly try it out one of these weeks and I'll you know if it works in real. tip: basically it's the same as a flatspin at 5 feet of the ground, only this one is vertical tipspin at 5 feet of the ground. I'm quite sure it will be able in real if you have the right plane.

Hi Maarten,

Awesome OMPEdgeHybrid video! Can you give us the settings you use for this aircraft?

Thanks!

Maarten,

yea, i was thinking about that before. You cant see the ground in sims, so its alot harder. But... im worried about wind being realistic, and not that i can do a awsome trick in AFPD, but then in real life its windy or something and i crash trying to do it. I downloaded almost all the vids on the AFP site and cant stop watching them. The harrier hovering and then flying around at 100mph or so is so amazing!!!! It just shows how good this program actually is! I watched a vid. from Reflex of a plane doing 3d.. and it looks very bad. THe plane looks very fake, and it seems to be on a string almost or riding on a invisible track in the air..

Mfrance,

I changed this: - total weight 7.9 kilo
- deflections: 60° on rolls 55° on elevator 50° on rudder
- C.G: -16.2
- engine: 3.05 kW torque: 85%
- prop: 24-10

these are the aerofly pro settings. I haven't tried her on aerofly pro deluxe yet.

I like the wind and turbulence simulation in aerofly pro, but it stays a sim. and you always have limits on a sim. In comparison to other simulators, aerofly pro is most realistic one! also for helis btw. I fly heli's too and I have to say it's very realisic imo.

ok, thanks again Maarten! I know it wont be exactly same weather and whatnot, but as long as its pretty realistic. aaaaaw... soooo sore... went snowboarding for first time..... O yea, and i also attached some landing gear to my foamy , i hope it works good. I attached the front 2 wires right under the CG point and then added a short bent wire for rudder wheel control. I hope that stuff doesnt effect the performance alot since i have a brushed motor.

Thanks Maarten, I'm still waiting for my AFP/D It should be cold and rainy this week, perfect for practicing on the simulator!
I'm sure it should be delivered this week

Maarten - very impressive flying on the vids. Obviously, you are extremely well-honed on 3D, and deservedly! Excellent stuff!

I am more interested in precision aerobatics, specifically the Smaragd setup for F3A pattern. I've been tweaking on the model some and have it about where my own real 2M airplane performs.
Problem is spins.... I cannot make the Smaragd enter a near-zero groundspeed, fully-stalled spin no matter what I've tried. The wing just will not stall and enter a spin.
Suggestions, please?

Bob P

I'll take a look at her. I haven't flown her a lot on aerofly pro deluxe yet. Have you tried increase the wingloading?

Nope - good point. Hadn't given that a lot of thought as the overall power is about right, not ballistic or 3D, just like real world. Appreciate any input you can provide! Thanks!

Maarten,

I have been going over your "torque circle" video and practicing harrier circles on both AFPD and Reflex XTR...

Was wondering...

About 3/4 the way though the video, you are finishing up the TRcircle and it's in slow-motion... you prepare to transition into a harrier roll and I notice you flicked switch C...

Did you have some mix set for the TR Circle and turned it off when you came out of it?

Maudib,

No I don't use mixes. It was my Dual rate switch or the smoke switch you saw. I always use a 3Drate and a IMAC rate.

Bob, these are my smaragd settings on aerofly pro deluxe. You can do flatspins by applying a bit of ailleron in the same direction as the rudder with a positive flatspin and by applying opposite ailleron in neg. flatspin.

I changed this to the stock smaragd: engine: 2.25 kW
deflection: rudder and elevator: 60° propwash on rudder: 65
ailleron: 40° elevator: 75
I'm afraid I can't make it fly more realistic than this

I'll do some more research for the flatspin.

Jeang,
I don't have a special IMAC version: I just change the exp. and Dual rate in my TX: ailleron 110% exp: 0%
elevator: 125% exp: 25%
rudder: 125% exp: 25%
all the rest stays the same.
I always fly the simspeed at 100% and I have a continuous 100fps

Thanks, Doc. It's not flat spins I'm after, but aerodynamically-induced spins from a full stall of the wing. I'll try your version, and keep playing with it. I appreciate the response!

Maarten,

It was switch C you flipped down toward you... I just watched the video again and I see now it was smoke...

Amazing flying... if I were you I'd look into a Yak 54 for your next real model... maybe Extreme Flights 50cc Yak or the Composite ARF... They seem to offer better high alpha flight with less snapping tendencies...

I have AFD and I'd like to setup my Futaba 7C in 3d mode. Would you tell me how you setup your radio or in the AFD?
Thanks!

sl_guy,

I have 3 models I use im my tx: the extra( I use this one for most planes, the shocky and the heli)

the extra: low rates: high rates: all 125% exp: 10%
ailleron 110% exp: 0%
elevator: 125% exp: 25%
rudder: 125% exp: 25%

shocky high rates: all 125% aill exp: -90%
ele exp: -80%
rudd exp:-80% (I have to use - rates to make the controls more sensitive)

heli rates: all 125% except rudder: 90%
aill exp: 30% ele exp: 25% rudd: 20%

I just watched the new vid by Doc Insane, and it has alot of formation in it, how did you do that? it looks alot like a split image instead of a recorded flight, cuz no way someone has that memory. MAN it looks awesome!
Thanks,
Scott

Maarten,
Great videos of you doing tork circle with the shots of the transmitter. At first I was confused by it and then I realized you're flying Mode 1! Wish I had your hand eye coordination. Keep up the great flying, if you don't already, I'm sure someone will be wanting to sponsor you and airplanes and equipment will no longer be a problem.

Great work,
Stan Douglas
