Good choice Jon!
I hear those CA 27% Extras are a nice plane. I have a friend building the 24% CA Extra right now. Not as nice...but the quality of the kit is just as good. I'm guessing if a 16-17 lb. 27% H9 80" Cap has unlimited vertical with the DA50...your CA should be fine! But I hope somebody else will reply to verify this, as I don't have any experience with CA planes. I do know that they build up pretty light though.
Good Luck!
...And Please keep us informed on how it fly's if you decide to go with the DA50! I've been looking at the 27% Extra myself, and would like to know!

If you are learning I would suggest an ARF rather than a kit unles you really enjoy building. THere are so many ARFs now in the 80" range... The building process gets you too attatched to a bird to feel free to put it at risk. All of the listed birds are good. If you want to push the 3D side I would suggest the Kankge Hurricane. It is very forgiving, very similar to the 29% Aeroworks Edge. It is light, forgiving and easy to repair. The DA50 will snap roll it through the clouds. Great match for 3D.
If you are wanting to lean more to the IMAC side then look at the Extras or AeroTechs Velox. They fly very clean but they do not "Lock in" like in 3D like the Edge (The Huricane is a laser fuse with the Edge Wing)

If you are refering to the pictures that t_wright posted in post #20...that is the Hanger 9 80" CAP. I got one new still in the box, and can't wait to put it together! But for now, my DA50 is resting happily in the nose of a Great Planes Patty Wagstaff 300S.
