I have a great planes giant extra 330L. Havent started to build it yet but I have got the motor and just about everything else needed to get it together. My engine is a Zenoah GT 80. Alos would I be able to compete in IMAC competitions with this plane/engine combo?ice or helpful hints would be greatly appricated since this is my first giant scale airplane.

I did a few searches and could not find him.
He is on this system but the search engine is weak.
THis is his website. http://www.rcsites.net/tmills/
He should be on here as: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/show...sp?memid=10879

Go to www.downonthedeck.com and then to the forums. He is on there pretty often. Just do a search for his name.

The GP Extra is a great airplane. Flew mine for the first time this season last week and I couldn't get the grin off my face. I have just six total flights on it, so there still is the 'new airplane awe' factor going on, but I love it. I have a DA-100 on it with hitec digitals all around and I couldn't be happier with the combination. It's not a 3d airplane in the stock configuration as it can be overstressed by violent manuvers like blenders etc. But for a strictly fun/IMAC airplane its great. Little to no knife edge coupling and the up/down lines are very impressive, lands like a trainer. Not sure about the Zen. 80, some have said that it's a marginal combination, but having said that the DA is almost too much power, if that's possible. It's a good airplane, you'll enjoy it.

Just finished mine this week. Got a couple more tweaks and such to check out prior to her maiden. I put a 3W106B2 QS on her with Hitec 5945 Digitals, an Aero Protect dual pull pull rudder setup with Rocket City linkages, an EDR Fiber Optic Kill Switch, I4C Voltmeters, heavy duty extensions with parson clips and HD switches, 9channel Hitech 149DP receiver, Slimline Skywriter Smoke, a
24oz Fuel tank and 16oz Smoke tank, both mounted on CG. I wasn't crazy about the cockpit design so I changed it to something I could see inside and made it functional with dual instrument panels. Tach and engine indicators are on the front panel and voltage is on the rear panel.
Sunday...
I just maidened mine yesterday. Ran a tank of fuel through it to "shake it down". Checked all the connections and bolts, tweaked the 3W106 a little and took her up. I added 3 clicks of left and two clicks of up to trim it out then pulled a couple of vertical uplines to check engine thrust, which was right on the money. Did a knife to check the CG and then inverted to check the CG and it was right on the money. Checked the aleron differential I'd programmed in and the plane flew like it was on a string with no dip during rolls. VERY pleased with the performance. I then made a low pass and a friend in the pitts noticed I had an aleron linkage dangling and I brought it back around to land at once. The landing was spot on the money and very predictable. I probably forgot the screw in the aleron servo horn or didn't tighten it up completely. Other than that, I'll put the plane on the bench and go through it for anything else I can see that I may have missed and then get ready for further trimming flights.
Simply EXCELLENT aircraft. Looking forward to logging alot of time on her.

I had one of these. Folded up on the seventh flight in a wall. The wing was not excessively stressed; it would have pulled more G's in a hamfisted recovery. Mine had weird characteristics in knife-edge.
Now I fly an Aeroworks Extra, and i'm much happier with the flight performance and wing integrity.

After building this airplane and examining the engineering surrounding it, without serious modification, I don't see where this plane should be performing a "Wall". At least not without serious modifications to the airframe and wings. It's more of an IMAC type aircraft and mild 3D. What mods did you make when you were building to address the structural issues?

There were no structural modifications made to the airplane. The aircraft was advertised as being 3D capable. I'm not the only one to have one collapse, several people have had theirs fail in simple IMAC maneuvers such as snaps.

I can't find the thread, it must be on a different forum. I really can't think of any precautions you could take, as the spars themselves sheared vertically. The wing was simply not strong enough.
Whatever you do, don't let that beautiful airplane crash; you did a helluva job building it.

I appreciate the compliment. I'll keep looking but I bought a Wild Hare Extra Special, that I'm almost done with, to do my 3D stuff. That should satisfy my blood lust ...<G>.
