Greetings All,
Quite an interesting discussion and really good information. As noted the cost of a 27% plane vs. the GP Extra and with a little skillful shopping is not far apart. What does make a difference is the way the plane is set up and how much practice you do. All in all bigger does fly better. Sometimes the difference is transport of a larger plane. A 35% will normally not fit in the same vehicle a 27% will. Wing panels aren't the problem in a plug in arrrangement but the fuselage can be. It is possible to make the rudder removable and remove the spinner to move in a station wagon or small van. I have seen Don Szczur take a 40+% Peter Goldsmith CAP out of a Taurus by doing this! Since the GP Extra has both removable wings and stabs it makes it a nice candidate for this kind of move. A happy medium may be the CA 31% which is a real buy.

Post some photos if you can to show set ups. Visit Dick Hanson's site for some really great information.

LaserDude,

If I had the cash right now I would buy the 3w75 that is in the marketplace. I have yet to decide. I might look for a good used BME 100-106, or a good used 5.8 out there. I have heard that the FPE 5.8's are awesome. So, to answer your question, not sure yet. I only have one stab and elevator done right now. So I have a lot of time to decide.

If you have a suggestion I am game.
Thanks Ric,
I don't have a suggestion for you. I have eyed this plane as a posibility for myself - I still like to build and was just curious what you had in mine to get the power you need and still keep the cost down. Thanks again.

You might want to consider a Brison 5.8, since you like the 3.2. I have a friend that has a 5.8, & it is absolutely awesome. It's a smooth running engine, & the price is right.
