Exiting crossbox

When a figure exits crossbox, is it up to the pilot to decide which way he exits, that is, either toward or away from the pilot? For instance, in the Sportsman sequence for this year, figure 4 is a 1 1/4 spin exiting crossbox. The Aresti seems to indicate that you should exit cross box toward the pilot. However, it would all depend on which way you enter the spin, seems to me. Any replies appreciated.

I would recommend that you use it to get the plane either in closer or out farther from you depending on the cross wind direction. I wish there were more cross box maneuvers in sportsman. I am bad at wind correction!
