Default question about p 70 or p80 engine

On your website it says the kit is ready to run. If i buy the kit will i need any other accessories like the Jm tank and pump? Also what size tank would i need to run to get 15 minute flights on the p 70 or 80?

Thanks
Grant

Hi Grant,

It is tough to know how much fuel to carry, it depends on the use of the throttle.

A 15 minute flight is pretty long......you would need just under a gallon to fly that long at full power with a P-70!!

With judicious use of the throttle, maybe 60-70 ounces? Really hard to tell, but like I said not many try to shoot for that much flight time.

OOPS sorry, not sure what the "Jm" tank is, but the package includes everything you need except the main (kerosene) fuel tanks, if that is what you are referring too.

The JM tank assy is available from us for you to fill and defuel your jet. It is an option alot of us use and prefer. Very nice setup.

You could make your own fuel/defuel tank setup if you like.

JM of course stands for Jersey Modeler.

I hav some more questions concering the p70 and 80 engines

What kind of maintenance is need on these engines?
How long do the bearing last?
Can i do most of all the maintenance work myself or will i need to send the engine back to you guys?
How long will the engines generally last?
Is the cost of maintaining the engines low?
Can i start the air start engine with my 110psi air compressor?
Will the engine run on red farm grade diesel fuel?
how much will the average cost is maintenance and repairs cost me?

Thanks
Grant

They need to be checked every 25 hours of operation (maybe 180 runs?) by us. THe first year or 25 hours is under warranty.

There is not really any user maintence except to charge the battery and clean the fuel filter periodically

We have had some last hundred and hundreds of runs. Hard to say an average. We check them at 25 hours and replace if necessary.

You clean the filters and change glow plugs, we check the bearings and do any other maintainance

Except for bearings, a very very long time. The pumps may go bad after several hundred runs, but that is not always the case either.

Maybe 300 bucks for 150 - 400 runs. It varies

JetCats have on board starters. No need for air.

Will the engine run on red farm grade diesel fuel?
We recommend kerosene or jet fuel. I do not think deisel will work, it will coke up the injectors

I already covered maintainance. Repairs can be anywhere form a couple of hundred to a couple of thousand. If you put a FOD screen over the front and do not crash you probabaly will never have any repairs.

I was mistake, the FOD screen for the P-70 has been available for a long time, but they are out of stock right now. We have screens for everything but the P-200.
