Default P80 problem

I got my P80 back from getting serviced at Jetcat on Friday, I would like to thank John and the gang at Jetcat. The flight was nice and short to see if everything was OK. The second flight after a minute and a half, the turbine shutdown, the ECU gave me a FUEL FAIL condition. I looked it up in the manual and could not find anything, the fuel pump voltage was 2.8v at a max rpm of 12300. So we looked thing over and tried for a third flight. The same thing, but the ECU gave me a OVER RPM at 133000 and a voltage of 2.75v. Jetcat replaced the combustion can, bearing and spinner nut and re-programmed the ECU to 5.0D version. For the over rpm I will re-paint the new spinner nut flat black like the old one I had, this fix the over rpm problem I have two years ago. Since the turbine is mounted out side the plane, the sun, might give bad reading to the optical sensor. But, I don't no what a Fuel Fail is at all, I put the turbine back in the same plane with nothing changed. Any Ideas? Kelly

I had exactly the same Fuel Fail on the initial ground run following a JetCat service and the 5.0 ECU Upgrade. Duirng the run, the sound was very different, a deeper note with a very pronounced rumble. All of a sudden, it shutdown with a Fuel Fail message. I ran it again, and everything was back to normal, so I put it down to purging all the fuel lines, and possibly uneven combustion causing the rumble.

Hopefully Matt can describe the faults that generate a Fuel Fail message as it's not in the manual.

"Fuel Fail" as I remember it is a sort of watch dog over the fuel pressure.

It is mainly a safety feature that can help prevent fires. If something goes down the motor and causes the turbine to reduce its RPM at a rather slow rate, the pump can try to overcome the slowing and pump too much extra fuel into the motor. This likely can happen on any brand turbine. It is an unlikely event but unfortunately it can cause fires so JetCat came up with a way to prevent it.

Most certainly an excess of air in the fuel can cause the "Fuel Fail " message to trip.

It is an adjustable parameter and I am not sure how John/Bob are setting it. We will have to wait for them to tell you.

I painted the spinner flat black and I went out today and made another four flight with no problems at all. For the fuel fail, I have no idea at all what would cause this, and I don't know anybody that can tell me for sure what it is. But, for the over rpm, I just painted the spinner flat black, this is a good idea for people that have a turbine outside the body of a plane. That is me two cents. Thank you Kelly
