Default P-80 flame on acceleration

I have a P-80 ser. #1082 with a 4.0 ECU. The engine has about 4.5 hours total time. The engine has a little flame for a couple of seconds on startup, but I am working on reducing that.

My question is when I accelerate the engine to a higher RPM while it is running, it will shoot a small flame for a second or two, then will stabilize. It only does this if the trottle stick is moved quickly, everything is normal if the stick is moved slower, like 4 secs from idle to full throttle. Is there a way to adjust the spool up time or to fix this?

PS, this engine was a sea level engine, it is now at 6000+ ft, I don't know if this would have any effect.

Thanks,
NJD

Hi Matt:

My P-80 is running good but last time I ran it something new happen. After the 1st flight when I was to shut down it does it alone, when idling.
The readings were:
1) 0.55 Volts (Pump). I normally shut the turbine at 0.65 Volt @ 53,000 Rpm, more or less.
2) 21,500 Rpm.
3) last shut down: "Low Rpm".
Notes:
I swap to 2.4 Ghz from 72.0 Mhz and did not recalibrate, to be honest. This may help your analisys.
I have not run the turbine again from recalibration at 2.4 yet.

Any comments will be appreciated.

Thank you,
Juan.

Hi Juan,

Honestly, I do not know if there is any 2.4 system that can be swapped in without a recalibration, maybe there is I just don't know.

I would definitely check your filter, and also, make sure you are checking the full throttle max pump voltage after every run. If it starts varying, look for a clogged filter or erratic pump operation.

Hope that helps,
