Wondering if a OS 46 LA would be OK for this plane? I hear the LA series is a bit 'weaker' than others.
Thanks again

The LA series of engines are not as powerful as the AX or FX series but they are nice economical engines and they run good. I have 2 OS25LA's on a Twinstar that run great and the plane is plenty fast...........not going to break any sound barriers here but it flys fast enough for me. One of the model mags did a review on the 46LA and really gave it cudo's for what it is. I would say you won't be disappointed unless you want to go for unlimited vertical. I've also had a 65LA that was a real beast. Just remember you are paying a lot less so it does not compare with more expensive OS engines but they have a lot of bang for the buck.

Cheers,
Andy

Thanks Andy. This is my first low wing plane (besides an escapade I haven't flown yet) so I am OK with not having unlimited anything
I'll give it a go as they are quite reasonable...

Kit arrived yesterday and my supplies are due next Thursday. I know this probably varies a lot, but what is the typical timeframe to putting one of these kits together? The plans and instructions look pretty straight forward. Other than the intimidating box of balsa, things look ok

I bought the 4*40 kit already. After reading around a bit I hear that is a great kit as well. Hopefully this one goes smooth enough and we can move on to another later

Not built a four star but built a somethin extra and a lt40. The four star build looks much like the extra build (perhaps slightly easier). How long the build takes depends on alot of factors such as your ability and how much attention to detail you wil put in in other words build quality.

Im sure you could lock yourself in a room and speak to no one and come outtwo to three weeks later with a plane built and covered and even havegood quality if you have built a few before.

But relistically it takes me aboutthree to four months tobuild and cover and set up a plane, prob about 100 to 150 hours. This time also depends on the kityour building but siglazer cut kitslike the four star are apiece of cake tobuild. In the middle ofa hog bipe the now quality of wood in kit amazing as always.

Dont rush the build to get in the air though as thats when corners are cut and you will regret it later, kit building is about enjoying the build otherwise we would all buy arf's.

Very true. I will definitely take my time. The lazer cut wood does look quite nice. Seems like they almost fall out...

That came out incredible......Love the color scheme. I bought Cream and Olive green monokote for mine. Will be doing something similar. After seeing that I cannot wait to get started....

A friend of mine in Ohio that has a 4* 60 and 120 told me that this kit is really simple..........just get a large garbage bag........pour the kit contents into the bag.........pour some glue in the bag..........shake it up..........voila! you have a finished airplane.

I have not built the 4* but I have built a lot of planes and I understand that this is a very well thought out kit that goes together fast and easily..........have fun and keep us posted on your progress..........pictures wouldn't hurt.

Cheers,
Andy

The same guy that designed the 4* designed the Venture 60.

Yeah..........I know..........he designed the 4* 40 and the 4* 120 and then went on to design others for SIG until he formed his own outfit. I was recently going to buy a 4* 60 kit, but they have become unavailable for nobody knows how long if they ever become available again so I bought a Venture 60 for a winter project. I'm tired of complicated builds..........wanted to get back to basics. I'm also going to order a Venture 60 wing kit so I can do some experimenting.........can't wait to start that bird and it's like everyone that you read says..........the kit is just fantastic!!!

Cheers,
Andy

The wings should be framed, and fuse about 1/2 together by now.. Where are the pictures?

LOL

The first wing will take you twice as long as the 2nd one. Then when you start the fuse, you will have a good idea how the kits building thing goes. I love sitting in the shop with my dog and a beer, gluing my fingers together.
