Hey....Thanks again for helping me out. I think I will go with a GWS over the wattage. I read some not so great reviews on it regarding trimming, and I am not very good at it. Great at building.....thats about it...... I wish I could have seen some of your planes pics...Golly..before it went away on ya. Thanks Guys, this radio stuff is a bit confusing, I'm glad I found this forum.

The primary points to look at when radio shopping: you want it on 72 mHZ, you'll need mini servos, and receiver (but try to get micro), and you want a dual conversion receiver.

Those are the very basic things to know. The stuff that follows can be ignored if you wish.

The receivers (rx's) with "limited" range are single conversion. Limited range is a minor fault; the real problem is they're not very good at filtering stray radio waves, like pager signals, and can result in the demise of your plane. In my opinion it's worth the extra $50 to save a plane.

It reminds me of a freeflight aeronca my uncle once built with bugs bunny in the pilots seat. only that was ..wow..huge...maybe 1/4 scale i think..maybe less . A range check is walking away from your airplane while operating the controls to be sure you have a good radio link.

The Skippy is right in the size range you said was desired, you will still have to buy one or more flight batteries, all the radio gear, the motor controller, and a charger. Starting at $110 for the airplane and motor, you can easily end up around $250 or more, if this is a consideration.

I'm not personally familiar with the Skippy, but Robbe in general has a good reputation. Do a search here on the name "Robbe" and you might even find a reference to the Skippy.

Range check; with trnasmitter (Tx) antenna down all the way, you should be able to get about 100 feet away and still have control of the plane's surfaces. (On the ground, not in the air!)

For the Cub you'll also need one, preferably two, flight battery packs, I'd suggest 7 cell, 300 mAH (Milli Amp Hour) NiMH's (Nickel Metal Hydrides). You can get them from Dave at Radical RC for about $15 each.

You'll need an ESC. The Cub only requires about 2 amp capacity, but I'd suggest getting something in the 15 - 25 amp range. That will give you coverage for the planes you're looking to build.

Dave also sells a "Pixie" 20 amp ESC for $38, which isn't too bad a price.

Dave's shipping is only $2.00!

The last thing you should need (?) is a battery charger for the flight packs. I'd suggest getting one that will do more than 8 cells in case you go bigger, but the cost can get high, so for now get an 8 cell charger. Maybe another $35 to $40. (Not sure what Radical has, but there are other suppliers for all of this stuff.)
