Default advice on good flying cub

hi all

need advice on a good flying cub in a 40 to 60 size, either arf or kit.
struggled with a sig kit hazel sig model in full wing and clipped wing version, TERRIBLE FLYER no another like this.
thru experience what kits would all advise as a good reliable, good flying cub. I know cubs are in a class by themselves,
rudder,rudder,rudder.

so any advice and help appreciated.

thanks

I've yet to hear of a cub that was easy to fly. I've seen a number of them fly well though. We have one pilot that just kept his nose to the grind stone and at first, there were generally five or six aborts before take off. You should see him now. Straight down the runway each and every time, same for landing. If a cub last long enough, it will make you a good pilot. We have a couple guys who used to fly full scale and acording to them, they fly about the same.

Pt19, What problem did you have with the Sig Cub? Did you have issues with it stalling when taking off or landing? I wouldn't recommend a Sig Cub to a novice since the plans and directions are out of date and limited on information. The Great Plane Cubs and Goldberg Cub are all good flyers but they are heavier than the Sig Cub. Personally I really like the Sig Cub and just ordered 2 more.

have flown cubs for 25 yrs, love the cubs have flown many

, about 80 inches is a good size. also a flight instructor .... the bigger models fly more smooth practice without the wig on the plane untill u can taxi at full throttle all the way down the centerline. put the wing on no wind and take off at 1/2 throttle, climbing at about 5 to 10 degrees most common mistake is pulling up too sharply watch a full size cub and try to copy how he does itgary

I got to a fly a Sig Cub at their fun fly last year. It flew very nice, very stable, nice stall turns.

Like others have said, if you don't want sigs, go with great planes or goldbergs.

1/t scale sig laser cut easy to build and flies well on a 70 4 stroke. Just build the tail light.

They all seem to fly about the same, size doesn't seem to mater at all. I just finished the Goldburg Cub last week. It's a bit harder build then the Tower Cub, more parts count but as for flying I can't tell the difference between the CG or Tower kit built Cubs. The CG is a bunch stronger.

I had the 1/4 scale, 1/5th scale and the 40 size....the Great Planes 40 size was the most fun,,,Cheap enough, easy to transport...easy on fuel..

In love cubs I soloed in the full scale in '54 and have flown several others over the years.I now have a hanger 9 40 size and a modeltech super cub. the super cub is a blastwith the flaps. they are easy flyers you njust have to get use to useing the rudder. I hade the Greatplanes .40 arf I liked it too.

Hi all
Just my 2 cents, they all fly as good as the builder is at building and they all fly as good as the pilot holding the radio. I have them ranging from 40 size to 1/3 scale size, with flaps and without flaps. My 40 is a Great planes clipped, which the wood was very crappie. Hangar 9 arf from my wife on my B Day, A Sig 1.4 scale clipped excellent plane and sweet flying, 2 1/3 scale balsa USA, 1 Super Cub and 1 J-3 Cub and another 1/3 which was built from plans. And a 1964 PIPER Cub COUPE. I am a CUB HEAD, I have not seen or flown a bad one yet. getting back to your answer. 1st choice is Balsa USA ( scale detail ) #2 is Sig #3 is G.B. and # 4 is G.P. Like I said, just my 2 cents.

Morgan
