For the price the DX18 is a great radio.   Mustangman how are hooking up the throttle linkage?  Put the throttle stick to center then put the servo arm 90* to the servo and hook the linkage up with the throttle butterfly half open.  I believe futaba uses expo on the throttle that should work like a throttle curve.

Have an issue with the hinge blocks for the flaps.
If you glue them to the TE than they do not sit flush with the sheeting and there is a gap underneath.
How did you guys glued them in place?

Thanks
Fabio

It's been so long since I did that, now I'm wondering if I even put them in there.

Question for you guys that have the plane on it's legs with the 5" wheels.. I am looking for the motor I am going to go with and need to know how big a prop I can run and not mow the lawn.. With the tail level what does it measure from the center of the hub to the ground?

Thanks

I think I figured it out.
Looking at this picture the hinge has to engage inside the fuselage at the bottom of the wing and close to the TE.
Therefore I am going to glue them to the bottom edge of the TE.
Correct me if I am wrong since I am walking down the basement to glue them .......

Thanks

Fabio

I thought I was the only one dealing with the I'm getting old thing and can't remember a dang thing... I just went to the kitchen and stood there for several seconds wondering why I was there, if it wasn't for the smell of the chili cooking I would have walked out forgetting to stir it.........

Everybody to Jimbo's house tonight for chili, I'll bring the cornbread!

I'll measure that for you when I get home Jimbo, I've had it standing on its gear since Sunday doing a psi test. As of this morning the gauge still hadn't moved.

I sure hope the guy that built that in the picture added the 4th hinge eventually.

I made new ones that were supported by the top and bottom sheeting. Make them bigger also, so the robart hinges will not go completely through.

Jimbo I have a 80cc ZDZ, I can run a 24" with clearance for grass, A 26" will work but you have to e careful. Sorta wish I could afford a 4 blade solo. Will have to see about that. My experience is you need more pitch with the warbirds. But I can only comment on 4 strokes, haven't run my gaser yet.

Thanks guys, can't put the peppers in the bread, kids won't eat it.. Wait a minute, peppers in my bread and the kids won't eat it all before I get some, this is this best idea of the year.........
I char some on the grill and the wife makes Jalapenobutter, it's pretty good on just about anything...

Thanks for the measurement Gary, looks like a 26" max like Ron said..

My wife makes stuffed japs by slicing gutting and laying a bunch of cheeses inside. Then baking them over the grill. Mmmmmmm!

I'm not sure what I was thinking on holding off on the rest of the wing till my gear gets here..I am joining it tonight and sheeting it from the spare aft, that way I can get my flaps and ail. done.. I will post pics tonight, already started sanding the bottom and got the joiner glued up....

Suggestion, the yellow p-47 canopy and fiberglass gage work very well and are the right shape. about $50.00 but looks so much better than TF's.

That's a nice canopy Ron, but I don't think I can squeeze one more thing past my wife. She's been real supportive on this project, and I don't want to push my luck.

Here is how I did mine, I had to lay it on the cross section of the flaps on the plan to figure out exactly how they went, small tab up.lol

I made a change on the ail. hinge blocks, they are not thick enough for my liking.. In the pic you can see that when the hinge point is glued in, only two barbs would be in wood. I added more wood so that the hinge has something to grab...

I got the wing joined and it took some sanding on the joiner, once I got a nice fit with the joiner, it all slid right together and the dihedral is right on the money... Yayyyyyyyyyyyyy Very happy how it joined up, took a break for some pie and I will go glue it up....

Right behind you Jimbo.
I did the flap hinge block the same way and I will follow your good suggestion on the aileron's blocks.
Don't mind loosing a flap in flight, but an aileron.......[:'(]
I will probably join the wing tomorrow.
I have not installed the gear yet.
After the wing is glued together I can get a better visual how the angle the legs have in respect to the wing.
One thing I do not care much for, is a warbird with bowed lagged landing gear.

Fabio
