She's coming along nicely, is that the cowl that came with the kit? If it is, glad to see someone else tackle it. It's not near as bad as it looks when in 5 pieces.
As you know, I had the same problems with the rivet set. They turn out great though after all the work.

Tony,
Canopy is masked with liquid masking film, brushed on three coats. The canopy
frame is built up fiberglass cloth layers, I used a water based mold release.
I posted some pics earlier in this thread of the basic process.
Gary,
I originally tackled the kit cowling but didn't like the result, perhaps is was my
technique. Ordered the fiberglass one from fiberglass specialties.

Flight's 7,8, and 9 yesterday, My friend balanced a WWII 22x10 Xoar prop for me, and I noticed a HUGE difference in engine performance. I checked the RPM's before the first flight and I was getting 6900. Out of fear of being too lean, I backed it down to 6600. She probably would have been okay, but I'm still being cautious.
No wind on the first flight caused me to run off the end of the runway, second flight a cross wind turned me off the runway into the rough, third flight I went for full flaps and got a decent roll out to end the day on.
Next flight I'm going to add a touch more (2%) down elevator w/ full flaps, and a little more throw on the ailerons. She does a nice roll, but I'd like a little more speed on it. On Flight Mode1 (regular rates), I'm going to add just a little more elevator throw as well, just a tad, so I wont be scared to try a split S.

What prop were you using before Gary?
Was the change for the better or worst?
I have great luck with the Xoar " Sword" version. Better pull and little lighter.
Anyway I am glad to hear you are enjoying your bird.
Here in Ohio the season it is over for giant scale warbirds.
I usually take off with half flaps and land with full flaps with plenty of power. Not surprised you ran out of room landing without flaps and no headwind.
My porker needs all the help it can get with 32lbs in the ass.
You are right about mixing down elevator with flaps. I did with mine and it is a breeze to land.
TB make sure you take a good video for your maiden!!!!

Fabio,
I was using the exact same prop, just a new balanced one. I guess balancing makes a difference. I'll take the old one that I had on it and balance that one too as a spare.
I had been landing with half flaps only, but I always had a good head wind. Yesterday was the first full flaps that I did, and she slowed down even better.

Hey Guys,
Good to hear about the upcoming maiden flights and Garys further successful flights. I appreciate
the info on the flap settings ect. as this takes the guess work out for us who have yet to maiden.
I can't seem to get my hands on a Xoar 22x10 prop. I have a Falcon 23x8. Opinons please. Does anyone
see an issue using this prop for a madien flight?
I did a weight check and came in at 24lbs. minus paint, batteries, prop/spinner.
Batteries/receiver = 1lb (2) A123 2500mah
Hoping to stay under 27lbs. We shall see
Worked on gun details today. With better planning I would do it different.
I made mine removable using a 6-32 brass insert in the wing and a nylon bolt glued in
the 1/4" styrene barrel. I saw another method I like better, using rare earth magnet glued to
the back of the leading edge and small bolt epoxied into gun barrel.

Excellent job mike. Looks great!
For 22x10 ww2 Xoar prop try this site seems to have them in stock.

I personally prefer Xoar "sword" which chiefaircraft.com sells them. Better pull lighter weight.

Hey mikeywart. Curious about why you would prefer magnets, to the threads?

Fabio,
Thanks for the link. I will take a look.
Kevin, I try to use the KISS principle. (Keep it Simple). Very rarely am I successful though
Rare earth magnets are plenty strong for this application. It would have been simpler if
I had planned better by fitting the guns earlier in the build.
I have a hatch on another plane that is held by these powerful magnets, it is right in
the prop wash of a 26" prop. No problem

Magnets are the way to go, I did not plan for this and if I would have I would have glued in a tin plate, that being said I may cut the whole gun detail area out and make the whole assembly removable with magnets. I will look at this later this week when I finish the wing.
