Thanks, I see what you mean. I should have thought of this earlier.. I've heard a lot of nice things about this kit!

Has anyone converted the Sig Cub to a L-4??

I finally got around to painting(dope) my SIG Cub. Never again will I use White dope on a plane except for trim, it does not cover well at all. The Red and Blue cover very nicely. There is still trim tape in place between the red blue and white. There will be a white stripe between the red and blue.

I may do an angle stripe on the wing and tail, haven't decided yet, in fact I didn't plan the fuse above, I just looked at it, masked it and painted. I may add another stripe starting above the rear window and taper it to the tail. I'm liking the way it looks so far. I'm thinking the bottom of the wing to stay white and do the bottom of the ailerons red. It will make the plane easier to orient at a distance.

N2EDM, I have built many anniversary cubs and unless they have changed the design, it is a one piece wing with dowels and wing bolts. It is the strongest wing for a cub that size I have ever seen. It does not require struts. I have never folded a wing and have used up to 90 four stroke and 60 two stroke. Great flying plane and it has full strip ailerons which is better and less rudder required to do turns. I like the barn door ailerons on a cub but if you want a nice flying sport cub, this is the one. Yes there is no door, so what? That falls under the 50/50 rule! 50 feet at 50 miles an hour, you can't see it any way! It is an easy build and could get you 'cubbing' while you build one with a more difficult structure. It's just my opinion but that's what counts when any of us are talking, our own opinion! hehe! Have fun bud.

Bird, maybe its been redesigned, or you're referring to the CGB anniversary cub, but the sig 1/5 anniversary cub is laser cut, two piece wing utilizing a 7/8" x17-1/2" aluminum wing tube, also has a working door / window... its not a bad design actually.

I have the sig anniversary cub that was converted to L4. The wing is two piece and I also have the kit that I'm listing for sale this week.

Thanks for the comments, Big Bird and John. I didn't notice the strip ailerons. I'd rather go with the barn door ailerons for the scale of it.

Smkrcflyer, I love the looks of your model. Did you do that conversion on your own or did you have a plan/magazine article to follow. It's nice to see the potential. Right now, I'm leaning toward the Sig Cub but don't have the funds to buy one. Still, you never know. Let me know when you list that kit.

Does anyone know of a build-thread on the Sig Anniversary Cub??? Just curious....

Thanks for all the info and suggestions so far,

Bob

Bob,
I did not build the plane. I was going to build this one and purchased the kit but I found this one already done. It was electric but I put a Saito 90T on it. I have not flown it yet but should soon.

Hi Smkrcflyer,

I may or may not be in a position to look at that kit, but please keep me in the loop. Most likely I won't be able to purchase it but you never know. Send a link when it goes on line, if you please.

Thanks,

Bob

John M,

Yes John I think you are right. I forgot about Sig doing one too. Sorry for the confusion. Sometimes I get confused with a capital 'K'! As Guilda Radner would say; NEVER MIND! hehe!

Box car, I have an old kit in .19 to .40 size of this airplane still in my collection. The paperwork has yellowed it's so old (70s?). It is a stick built design and my only complaint is the cowling is too short. I have spoken to guys who have built this kit and they all say it's a handful to fly.

Flyer, I have one too with $12.95 penciled on the box! If I'm not mistaken, and I often am, it was designed for an engine with three hole tabs molded onto the back plate! It's the only way you can get an engine in there without ANY kind of mount. Even motor rails would have worked but that is not the case. This kit would lend itself to electric very nicely, just design a hatch in the bottom.

Two questions: Any ideas on how to get my muffler inside my cowl. I realize now that I should have had the sylinder to the side rather than down, however the Saito manual recomends the sylinder down for better lubrication. I really dont like the idea of the muffler like this. and second, regarding the dummy engine in the Sig kit, I really dont like it. I cant get it tho fit properly, the plastic is thin and the overall look of it isnt that nice.

bigbird3. Luckily my mom has nothing to say regarding where I build and store my planes. My girlfriend on the other hand, do She is tired of dining tables being wrecked by spilling Cyano glue on them and so on. I did use a sock on the iron for the wings. Not on the fuse. The covering work came out ok but not perfect. After 3 years of bulding I just want to get the thing airborne. I have given up getting it 100%

The only thing I can think of for the muffler is to make your own header pipe and taylor it to fit inside. This is not easily done. Copper or brass doesn't work well even if you get it to fit the fittings it will crack at the flair. If you are a metal worker you will think of something. Otherwise just put the exhaust out the cowl. Remember, in this hobby most everything is 50/50, fifty feet at fifty miles per hour, you won't see it anyway! Besides, The exhaust of a four stroke is hotter than a two stroke because it fires once in two strokes and will create more heat in the cowl. A two stroke fires every time therefore it washes the engine down with fuel twice as much! You need two times the exit of the entering air to properly cool the engine. Good formula to remember.

Sorry for the confusion, Mama is your other half and Mother is your mom. At least that is how we describe it here in the states. I'm sure you have some silly things you say that we don't understand too. The english language is a funny thing. It's not even English anymore! We have messed it up so much that we can't understand them and they can't understand us! And now every one else is having a difficult time speaking the right lingo to one or the other! Please don't teach me yours, I'm having a hard enough time on this end! lhehehehe!
bird. cheers. It's all in good fun my friend.

Yeah, If I leave it like it is it most certainly will be more reliable than try getting it inside the cowl. I may just leave it like it is. I might go all crazy and maiden it whitout the cowl even though it is a big nono among my flying buddies. I have realized the last years that kit bulding i MUCH more time consuming than I thought. This is my first real kit build. 1 year ago when the plane was ready for covering I thought to myself; hey, Im almost done. Well, I was wrong

Learning English is someting I did a little at school. The rest I picked up by reading forums and internet pages, therefore it is a grusom mix of different english. The important thing is that we understand eachother when it comes to the important things

What I did was I bout a 90 degree fitting for a Saito twin and installed on the head the attached the stock muffler and ran it out the back parallel to the bottom of the fuselage. It came out looking great!

Have you check the pipe size for the head connection and compared it with other Saito motors? That was how I found mine and it was an obsolete ,80.
