Hi John: I've never bothered to weight my Cub because with the g-23 being such a nice flying combination. I'm personally not a big 4-stroke fan in model airplanes. I like them simple and easy to run and 2-strokers fit the bill for me. I love dumping the flaps on final and seeing it float over the trees on those all too rare, sweet summer nights here on the MN Tundra. We sure don't get enough of those!
Best Wishes,

Thanks Rocky... I hear you, when you got a combination that works why mess with it... I just luv the sound of a four stroke... single cylinders are as reliable as a 2 stroke... the only maintenance is keeping the valves adjusted, and using a good quality after-run oil... if you use the right % of oil in the fuel and don't run them too lean the valves hardly need attention.
Sounds like our summers out here in California... parks and recreations closes the access gate to out field at sun set, so no dusk or night flying unless you hop the fence; and I hear the fine is pretty steep.

Yep, the big 2 stroke gassers have a good sound to them as well when you come off full throttle... I remember the days when converted chain saw engines were the rage, everyone ooo'd and aaah'd over the sound of those.
Another thing I like about the four strokes, with the right prop selection, keeps the airspeed down to a realistic speed with plenty of pull when you need it... both types of engines have their pro's & con's... it really boils down to personal preference; just as long as it gets you in the air !

Hangar 9 J-3 1/4 scale engine upgrade
What engine upgrade are you guys running on the J-3 cub? I have a G20ei and it flys very scale. My flying field has trees and power lines everywhere which makes mistakes very costly particularly on windy days. looking for a little more recovery power.
thanks for any advise

Here's a museum piece for you guys. Whipped up this baby in about an hour & half. I'm thinking of removing
the plastic dummy engine and adding this one. I will call it the Magnum 180's twin.

ssssush, don't tell anyone, but I understand, I'm getting quite the fathers day present; H9 super cub and a GF40, ssssush; I'm not suppose to know :giggles:
Nice work cubcrasher... I would get another cowl and keep the finished one just in case..

Well I overheard something I shouldn't have... I haven't anything to fly while I'm refurbishing my sig cub except my sport flyer 40, and its a bit too small for my aging eye sight.. I want to take my time detailing this cub out; and I think my brother inlaw is getting tired of me stealing his stick time, so they are all pitching in on something for fathers day... of course I left some subtle innuendos in the form of "looks at this" "would be nice " and open pages of catalogues left on the work bench... nothing too obvious, lol ... of course, if they do something that extravagant, I will certainly counter it by hidden surprises left for them to find here and there... I'm simi retired, so its a bit steep form me get something like that in one swoop, but I can give back a bit here and there without them knowing where it came from.

As my reward, my goddess gave me my "Daddy's Little Grrl", only a couple years later. And you KNOW she can do no wrong, even when she's beating the stuffing out of her big brother; no wait... ESPECIALLY then.
I am the luckiest man on earth.
